Guest guest
HSNT is the Humane Society of North Texas, not the Ft. Worth Humane Society...but whatever you want to call it, they are taking in approximately 700 animals a week right now. I was there last Sunday and pulled seven dogs without even making a dent. They are overwhelmed to a point that most of us cannot even conceive...I am sure that they would be more than willing to send these dogs to a sanctuary but if you have ever tried to find a sanctuary for a dog (much less 37), you know it is next to impossible. Best Friends was all over the Michael Vick story but then again, it was a highly publicized one. When I recently contacted them about one Katrina dog, they turned me down flat even though I offered to make a donation and/or take 2-3 dogs from them to help make space. I doubt that Best Friends is willing or able to take on every group of pit bulls that is seized around the country. I don't speak for HSNT but I do work with them a lot and I can promise you they would not turn down help. However, they also are completely out of space all the time and holding these dogs, who are unlikely to be adopted no matter how friendly they are, would force them to kill even more dogs. Once again, I urge everyone to provide them with real alternatives if we are going to make judgments about the way they run their facility. Ft Worth Humane plans to euthanize all 37 Johnson Cnty pit bulls! The Ft Worth Humane Society took in all 37 living pit bulls found in Johnson County in terrible conditions. That's the good news. The bad news is they plan to euthanize every last one, even though most have initially shown friendly personalities. See story here: http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wfaa/latestnews/stories/wfaa080625_lj_pitballs.3b540cff.html Please contact the FTW Humane Society and express your dismay at their plans to euthanize all of these dogs! Ask them to please take the time to find appropriate sanctuary for these poor dogs and to give them a chance at the life they each deserve. Many of the Michael Vick dogs are now thriving thanks to the successful rehabilitation efforts of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah, who took in many of the dogs despite calls from both HSUS and PETA that they all be euthanized. In addition, Best Friends just took in another group of pits saved from a dog-fighting ring in Washington. These dogs are known as The Great Eight.
