Guest guest
Sorry this is so last-minute. CIRCUS DEMO/LEAFLETING IN DALLAS: Sunday, August 3, 5:15 pm Thursday, August 7, 6:15 pm Friday, August 8, 6:15 pm Saturday, August 9, 6:15 pm Sunday, August 10, 5:15 pm (and follow the elephants @ 8:30 or 9:00) (Note that Sunday performances are one hour earlier) Remember - it will be hot - drink a lot of fluids and dress comfortably. See new info on parking at the end! SOME BACKGROUND: We hadn't planned a demo on Sunday August 3. However, as we were disappointed by Dallas police, who selectively enforced noise ordinances against us while allowing the circus hawkers to peddle their programs at full blast, we have decided to put in an appearance. And, if the circus uses it's loudspeaker on the street again tomorrow, we may (or may not) use our megaphone and risk a ticket. (A HUGE thanks to Randy for offering to defend us without charge.) :-) ACT and VegNod will be working together to cover most of the remaining evening circus performances. We also plan to be in Fort Worth - and will send details out on that within the next few days. For questions regarding the weekend demos and leafleting, call Susan at 214-577-6727, for questions regarding the week-night leafleting, contact Margaret at 972-571-9603. On the last Sunday, we typically follow the elephants to the railroad cars after the final performance. If you are in good physical shape and are wearing comfortable shoes, you may wish to run with the elephants and photograph any abuses on the road (not easy to do - as it will be dark and they will be moving very quickly.) Otherwise, you can join those of us who are not as speedy near the railroad cars to observe the loading (that is, typically, when bullhooks are most easily observed - although we will be at a distance). If you plan to leaflet on Sunday the 10th and follow the elephants, please note that there will be a break between 6:30 and 8:30 - just enough time for us to go and grab a bite to eat. PARKING DETAILS: An earlier memo regarding parking spots near the American Airlines Center was inaccurate. There used to be free parking on one part of Akard. That is now all marked tow away. However, the City was nice enough to provide some low-cost meters on Ashland. The charge is $.25 for an hour. There were a number of the meters empty tonight - as most people were distracted by the men with orange flags trying to get you to use their $10 lots. Ignore the men - and use the meters. Hope to see you at one or more of the circus performances. Thanks for all you do to provide a voice for those who are forced to perform under the big top.
