Now that City Council is back in session, we must re-double our efforts to keep Jenny's plight in the news. Thank you. MargaretThe below was published in 8/4/08 Dallas Morning News: Mercy not limited to people Re: "Much ado about an elephant," by Anthony Sanders, Friday Letters. The 200 or so people at the recent Dallas Zoo rally weren't there because they have too much time on their hands, but because they have the courage to speak for this poor animal. I know many of these people who have sacrificed other needs and interests to help Jenny the elephant. Mr. Sanders seems to think mercy is a zero-sum game – that you can't help Jenny without harming other good causes. Mercy is not a pie to be divided, but a state of mind that expands to accommodate the needs of many. I was proud to be at the rally. My mother and I have donated hundreds of care packages to our troops overseas and at Fort Hood since 2005. So much for Mr. Sanders' theory.
