Guest guest
Jenny's plight is global news with staying power. UPI.com wire service added to the buzz (below) about Jenny, the Dallas Zoo Elephant. API wire service has already reported. Canadian Broadcast System and the British Broadcast Corporation discussed Jenny on August 15. And, as we know, the NY Times published a remarkable piece of Jenny journalism this week, also. Wonder why the City of Dallas hasn't decided that all this negative publicity is hurting Dallas' national and international reputation? Are the Association of Zoos and Aquariums industry trade association goals and Dallas Zoo Director's Gregg Hudson's career ambitions really so important that Dallas is willing to sully its international reputation? Guess so. Who knew? Please write and email the Dallas Mayor to express your opinion on Jenny's future. Contact info available at: www.concernedcitizensforjenny.net.Thank you. Concerned Citizens for Jenny, a local group that formed as part of the effort to keep the elephant, Jenny, from going to an exhibit at the African Safari Park in Puebla, Mexico, said the pachyderm has in the past suffered from depression and symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress disorder that included self-mutilation using her tusks, The New York Times (NYSE:NYT) reported Friday. The group and other activists and experts are lobbying the zoo to cancel its deal with the safari park in favor of sending the distressed elephant to a 2,700-acre sanctuary in Tennessee that houses 17 distressed elephants that are cared for in seclusion. "Jenny is a special-needs elephant," said Margaret Morin, a Dallas nurse and leader of Concerned Citizens for Jenny. "She's unique; she's afflicted with crippling depression. The elephant sanctuary is the right choice." © 2008 United Press International, Inc. .
