I have asked all the National AR groups to re-send Jenny action alerts. Kudos and sincere thanks to Born Free USA (a wonderful organization) for being the first to re-send an action alert and continue to support our efforts to retire Jenny to TN. See their their beautifully written alert below. I will share other AR national alerts with TX A.R. as they are published, which will be soon. REMINDER: Jenny needs us now more than ever. We must continue to contact the mayor and city council and urge they retire Jenny to The Elephant Sanctuary, where she can get the rehabilitation and peace that she so desperately needs. Please Take Additional Action to Save Jenny the Elephant

Despite the Dallas Zoo’s recent announcement that Jenny the elephant would not be traveling to Mexico after all, her fate still hangs in a precarious balance. Your participation is urgently needed to help ensure that her best interests are considered by Dallas decision-makers, and that she is allowed a swift retirement to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee rather than being left to languish at the Dallas Zoo.

Many thanks for all your hard work so far advocating on Jenny’s behalf! We must now keep the pressure on to bring about the best outcome for her, by imploring Dallas officials to intercede and convince the zoo to send Jenny to The Elephant Sanctuary.

Thanks to the strong public outcry of people like you, Jenny will no longer be going to Mexico, but we need your voice more than ever to ensure a successful outcome for Jenny.

Send your letters to Dallas city officials right now.

Stop the Capture and Slaughter of Thousands of Dolphins in Japan — Join the Global Initiative for Japan Dolphin Day

Around 23,000 dolphins and porpoises are killed throughout Japan every year. The largest single slaughter of dolphins in the world is the dolphin drive in Taiji, Japan. These dolphins are killed in the most brutal way imaginable.

Some of the meat from these animals is then sold to the Japanese public, in spite of the fact that it is contaminated with mercury, methyl-mercury, and PCBs. Shockingly, most Japanese people don't know about the slaughter or that the meat sold for human consumption is contaminated.

Please join your voice with others around the world to help change the fate of Japan's dolphins, today and on Wednesday, September 3 — Japan Dolphin Day — to express your outrage at this horrific practice.

Send your letters to Japanese officials now.

Christian the Lion and Born Free’s Virginia McKenna on Animal Planet this Weekend

Be sure to watch "Untamed and Uncut" on Animal Planet this Sunday, August 31 at 9:00pm.

You’ll have a chance to see the remarkable video documenting the reunion between a lion named Christian and two men who had cared for him early in his life and then released him to the wild in Kenya with the help of George Adamson. The video clip from the film Christian: The Lion at World’s End has been making the rounds on the Internet and has had more than ten million hits!

And you won’t want to miss the accompanying interview with Born Free Foundation founder, Virginia McKenna (mother of our CEO Will Travers).

On his way to freedom, Christian the lion lived briefly in Will’s backyard in England. To find out more about the extraordinary circumstances of how Christian made his way from a London department store to freedom in the wilds of Africa, check out Will’s blog Christian the Lion Lived in My Garden.
