I cannot fathom that more will be needed, but I'm letting people who are still emailing me about donating know the following: " If you'd still like to help with the costs of his rehabilitation and fostering, that would be much appreciated – I know most people will think it's over now that this part is handled. IF you'd like to do that, you can mail a check to Mid Cities Humane Society PO Box 540493 Grand Prairie, TX 75054 Phone: 972-263-4567 Memo on Check: for Yukon Or visit the Mid cities Humane Society website and donate online at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/TX358.html. " I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to follow-up on all of this and to call me and network Yukon's case ... I'll keep you and everyone else updated on his surgery and recovery as soon as I know something. Thank you again, Nancy ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Nancy C. Underwood <nancycunderwood Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 1:36 PM Yukon + Car = Very Bad, BUT His Surgery is Covered Nancy Underwood <nancyu I just got a call from DVSC that, in less than 4 hours, over $5,000 has come in to them for Yukon .... please let everyone you contacted know that Catharine, Yukon, and I are so grateful and that no more donations are needed. As soon as I have a surgery update, I will send that out. Thank you again, I'm truly amazed and overwhelmed, Nancy ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Nancy C. Underwood <nancycunderwood Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 12:03 PM Re: Yukon + Car = Very Bad Nancy Underwood <nancyu I am truly moved and encouraged beyond words by the outpouring of support that has come in for Yukon. I just got back to the office from the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center ( " DVSC " ), and the good news is that his surgeon, Dr. Arnold, is confident that he can be repaired and be returned to his former ability to walk - and even run and play. He was in an incredible amount of pain going out there, but they promptly examined him so that he could be hooked up to pain medication and sedated. Dr. Arnold is going to amputate his tail and leave as much intact as possible and will put screws and a bolt into his pelvis to keep it anchored to his spine. They are also going to bathe him, salve his wounds, and keep him on lots of drugs. There are some incredibly competent and kind people at DVSC, and they're all going to take really good care of him. When I came out of the exam room, so many people had been calling in donations that they did not even take my credit card. The doctor gave me his examination for free, and the clinic will be donating a 10% discount on the final bill. The estimate I gave you was about right - I have a four page long list of what is going to be done and administered to him, and the total will be, barring something unforeseen popping up during the surgery, between $4-5,000. It was awful to see him in so much pain, and he was crying and trying so hard to be a trooper. As I sat on the floor talking to him and petting him and trying to keep him as calm as possible, I could hear the phones ringing non-stop in the lobby and the receptionists saying " how much would you like to donate, " and, not only did this really touch me, but I told Yukon that an entire city of people cares about him and will help him. He looked up with those huge blue eyes, and his ears twitched with every word, and I really think he wanted me to tell you thank you. More updates to come after the surgeon calls me.
