Guest guest
MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Watch for announcement of new CCFJ tactics. For instance, we will do an important educational leafleting for Jenny late afternoon on Saturday, September 13. Please be there for Jenny. Details of leafleting to follow. ****************The below DMN blog entry is just a red herring on the part of the city. They are trying to draw attention away from the fact that Jenny will be in a tiny postage stamp enclosure for a minimum of two more years after they break ground and probably much longer. As Angela Hunt said last week, the city has never completed any project on time...in its entire history. Jenny is going stir crazy RIGHT NOW in isolation (check out the PSA with video from mid-august of her obsessively swaying... a sign of distress in elephants). You may recall I cross posted an unsolicited email I received last weekend from a lady who saw Jenny repeatedly ramming her head against steel fencing on Saturday night, 8/30/08. Jenny is in deep misery NOW. No proposed plan or pie in the sky habitat that is not even a concrete plan yet (the Zoo just issued a Request for Proposals in August) is making that any better. The average life span of an elephant in an AZA zoo is 34. Jenny is 32. But, the natural life span of an elephant is 70 or 80. As we discussed last night, if Jenny could go to TES, she might have 30 + good years ahead of her. All the more reason to get her to TES post haste! Most important of all, please continue to call the mayor and city council and urge them to retire Jenny to TES. We must not let the calls abate. Also, urge the Mayor and City Council to require the Zoo to have Jenny immediately evaluated by an elephant behavioral expert such as Gay Bradshaw or Carol Buckley. Jenny needs immediate psychological intervention. We don't want the the Zoo to start drugging Jenny again to keep her restrained (this is not treatment). City Hall contact information on my website. Thanks very much.Margaret www.concernedcitizensforjenny.net--- On Wed, 9/3/08, Google Alerts <googlealerts-noreply wrote:http://cityhallblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/09/dallas-zoo-receives-5-million.html Google News Alert for: jenny elephant dallas zoo Dallas Zoo receives $5 million donation, the largest in its history Dallas Morning News - Dallas,TX,USA Plans for the Savanna's elephant exhibit were recently fasttracked after the zoo decided to keep its lone remaining elephant, Jenny, in Dallas. ...
