Guest guest
See below from Barbara, CCFJ member. Elephant Indra was trying to flee her captors in the wee hours of the morning. She did not make it, as she had no where safe to go. Please think of poor Indra today. And, do not forget Jenny, the grievously confined elephant in our own backyard, who has a safe haven offered to her, but the Dallas Zoo won't allow her to reach it. Commemorate Elephant Appreciation Week (Sept 21-27) by: --- Joining Jenny Advocates at Dallas City Council on Wednesday from 9 - 10:30 AM.--- Mailing a "Retire Jenny" e-Card or real greeting card (even better) to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and Parks and Rec director today. For their individual email and physical mailing addresses, please go to: www.concernedcitizensforjenny.netRemind the City of Dallas that Jenny Supporters are not going away and that we continue to stand by Jenny, who is languishing her life away in misery in a tiny enclosure at the Dallas Zoo. Had CCFJ not stood up for Jenny this summer, Jenny could easily have been in Indra's place. But, the fight to SAVE JENNY is not over.MargaretFounder, Concerned Citizens for Jennyhttp://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,426561,00.html FOXNEWS.COM HOME > WORLD Bus Crashes Into 5-Ton Escaped Elephant on Mexican Highway Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Reuters Sept. 23: An elephant that was hit by a bus lies at freeway piramides north of Mexico City. MEXICO CITY — A five-ton elephant escaped from a circus and wandered onto a busy highway, where it was hit by a bus and died on Tuesday. State officials say bus driver Tomas Lopez, 49, also was killed and at least four passengers were hospitalized after the pre-dawn collision in Ecatepec, just north of Mexico City. Mexico State police spokesman Juan Sanchez said the elephant escaped from its cage at the Circo Union, but he declined to give any other details. He said officials were investigating. The state-funded Notimex news agency reported that the elephant named Indra escaped as its keeper arrived to feed it, knocking down a metal door that led to the street and wandering through two neighborhoods before trying to cross the highway. Small circuses have used the name "Circo Union" in Mexico and it was not immediately clear which was involved. Last month, a 500-pound lion escaped from a private zoo owned by a local lawmaker in southern Mexico. The animal killed two dogs and a pig and attacked a woman and child on a donkey before it was sedated and caught.
