International Wildlife Expert, Will Travers, of Born Free USA/UK visited Dallas today to speak for Jenny the sole elephant at the Dallas Zoo.

Will strongly advocated for retiring Jenny to a sanctuary and had high words of praise for The Elephant Sanctuary in TN. Two local television stations attended the 11:30 AM Press Conference at the Zoo. And, Channel 11 came too late to participate, but arranged to interview Will this afternoon, as did a couple of other television and radio stations.

Today, Will made an excellent point, which is this. In the wild, elephants have to survive disease, poaching, decimation of habitat, famine, predators, and other major challenges to their daily lives. And yet, in the wild, the average lifespan of an elephant is 75-80 years old.

But, even with regular food, water and veterinary care, plus protection from poachers and predators, elephants in zoos live less than half their natural lifespan. That's how bad it is for Jenny in the Dallas Zoo.

Please continue to contact the mayor, city council, city manager, and parks and recreation director to strongly urge they retire Jenny to The Elephant Sanctuary. It's the right thing to do for Jenny.

At the Dallas Zoo, it is highly probable that Jenny will have an unhappy, unwell and abbreviated life. At TES, she has a significantly improved chance at a happy, heathly and long life.

Thanks to CCFJ member, Pam, for taking the below photos. Good job, Pam!

BTW, An odd thing occurred after the press conference. One of the t.v. stations contacted Will's P.R. director and asked when our press conference would be rescheduled. From contact that we learned that someone had called that station and advised that our press conference had been cancelled, which it had not.

Will called it Jennygate and immediately sent another press release offering one:one interviews this afternoon.

Kudos to Will Travers and Born Free USA! We are very grateful to Will for speaking for Jenny. Please watch the news and then contact the stations who covered Will and thank them for the coverage. This is extremely important.

No matter where you live, CCFJ urges all Jenny Advocates to continue to speak for Jenny. We must not let City Hall think we have given up and gone away. I am working on new tactics all the time, but in the interim, it is essentional that everyone continues to contact the City to advocate for her retirement to TES.

We must not give up. For Jenny.

Thanks very much.
