I just love The Elephant Sanctuary's e-newsletter (see below). Look at these happy ele-faces! Please help Jenny retire to The Elephant Sanctuary, which would be heaven on earth to her. For info on how to help get her there, go to:

Surprise visits from Scott are always a big thrill for Billie and Frieda (pictured above) and Liz.

Happy Visits

Last week when Scott arrived at the quarantine facility, the 3sum erupted into a LOUD, happy chorus. Billie trumpeted time after time, ears out, tail pointing straight out behind her; Frieda with her signature "whale song" baby talk and tail straight up in the air, and Liz's unmistakable 'squeak-squeak-squeak' filled the chilly morning air. The Girls are always glad to have a visit from Scott, and they get simply silly with happy vocalizations. Liz dashes around on her nimble, lanky limbs; Frieda spreads her ears wide and talks softly as Scott pats her trunk.

This is a great day, as even Billie enjoys the affection and interaction that comes from these visits. From the safety of the other side of the gate, she rumbles her approval as she welcomes her very first head pats and ear scratches from Scott! So wonderful to see her secure enough to share time with someone other than her elephant sisters.

Huntsville Times: Pachyderm Paradise is in TennesseeBelow is an excerpt from a recent feature about the Sanctuary in The Huntsville Times by Challen Stephens. Click here to read the rest of the story....As Blais strokes Shirley's feet, Buckley approaches her constant companion. At a mere 7,500 pounds, Bunny may be the smallest member of the herd.Bunny wraps her muscular trunk under Buckley's backside and pulls her close. Bunny is affectionate. Some days she simply places her trunk in Buckley's hands. Most elephants don't do that. But, if this sanctuary demonstrates anything, it's that each elephant is dramatically different in taste,

habit and deed."Rumble, rumble, rumble," answers Buckley, both hands pressed flat against Bunny's snout. Then Tarra appears, first heard, then seen loping lightly over the top of the hill...

Blitz for Ele-shavings It's that time of year... with the return of crisp, fall temperatures, the Girls are beginning to celebrate homecoming again in the warm barns, and we will need a fresh supply of shavings/sawdust to keep their stalls comfy and trunks busy dusting themselves! The cost per truck load is $950.

We could really use your help in underwriting shavings for the Girls, so if you can spare a little support, please click here to make a donation to this blitz. Santuary much!

Thanks for a great event! Our heartfelt appreciation to those who were able to participate in our "Pave The Way" fundraising and silent auction event to benefit the Education Gallery a few weeks ago at the Factory at Franklin. We had a great time and appreciate the support of the many sponsors, donors, vendors, volunteers and even a few long distance auction bidders. Some event photos are located here. And don't forget, you can help "pave the way" for the Education Gallery from our website anytime by sponsoring a brick paver...they make great holiday gifts, too!
