Have any of you ever fed your dogs a veggie diet that you have made

from home?

I am asking because I have a dog that is having a horrible problem

with a skin allergy and right now I dont have the money to take her

back to the vet to get her prescrition refilled.

About 2 weeks ago I met a couple at the dog park that told us that

they found out that their dog had skin allergies that was caused from

food dies in the commercial dog food they were using and told me to

feed my dog a combination of chicken and rice for a while to see if

that would help. It hasnt.

I did a little checking on the web on skin allergies in dogs and one

suggested using lamb, rabbit or venison. I dont have access to that

stuff nor can I afford it, nor do I want to touch it. Using the

chicken was hard enough but I had to try something to help my dog.

So i am wondering if any of you have every tried to do a homemade veg

dogfood and have you been successful with it.

Our finances at this moment is just not doing well.

I suggest going on line and seeing about

the veggie kibble that is available. However, it is not cheap either.

I know how you feel. I may be

wrong, so you will need to check it out, but dogs need approx. 18% protein.

They can eat most of the foods we do, they are omnivores like us

and can live without the animal protein.

But you have to add supplements like

flax seed oil, to bump up the protein. Beets and dark green veggies

for the iron.

That is the best I can do , I know how

you feel.

I forgot to mention, slipped my mind.

Solid Gold brand has a veggie formula kibble. you add the protein.

Which I guess could be soy or tofu.

Soy does give some dogs gas, which may

be a factoid told by the dog food industry. After all they are not wanting

us to use veggie alternatives to their product.

Hope this helps.
