Guest guest
This is even better than the 2003 position paper. Very positive about not only the safety and appropriateness of veg diets, but also contains documentation of health benefits. We’ve come a long way in terms of validation – the hard part is changing behaviors. I plan to give this to people who criticize the health aspects of vegan diets. Reference: Journal of the American Dietetic Association 2009;109:1266-82. POSITION STATEMENT It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the lifecycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes. John J.
