Guest guest
Animal Advocates have an excellent opportunity to write a FW Star Telegram LTE and expose Circus cruelty and abuse of elephants and other animals. Please write today, while the article is still fresh (see below). One letter was already published on August 9 (immediately below). You may also remark on that courageous letter. Thanks very much. Yes, it’s exotic and exciting, but the abuse behind the scenes, now verified in court hearings, will make one cry. The majesty of the elephants makes us love to see them up close. But the endless hours in train cars, then shackled to concrete, forced to walk on baking streets in summer "parades" — and all the while poked and terrified to stay under control — is a very high and cruel price to pay for our pleasure. Please find other ways to get a thrill and encourage circuses to focus on the very dramatic talents of their human performers. — Elin Jacks, Arlington ******************************* FORT WORTH STAR TELEGRAM NEWSPAPER ARTICLE from Saturday, August 8, 2009 (on which you may submit a LTE): http://www.star-telegram.com/metro_news/story/1527985.html Ringling Bros. elephants to take a stroll down Main Street Elephants will be on the loose in downtown Fort Worth on Tuesday. The arrival of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in Cowtown will be celebrated with a parade of circus elephants and clowns up Main Street, from the Fort Worth Convention Center to Sundance Square. The elephants will stop between Third and Fourth streets for a snack — OK, a meal — before heading back to the convention center. The elephants will begin their stroll at 7:20 p.m. The circus will perform at the convention center Wednesday through Sunday.
