Hi Everyone,

Today I listened to The Diane Rehm Show, as I do most days,

and was happy to find that she had an extremely interesting

guest and subject.  Dr. Frans de Waal discussed his new

book, " The Age of Empathy " (Harmony Books)

which explores empathy and compassion in the animal

kingdom and how it translates to human beings.

I would encourage you to listen to today's show

online:

Frans de Waal, psychology professor at Emory

University; author of " Chimpanzee Politics " and

" Our Inner Ape; " director of the Living Links

Center at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center.

Let's also thank Diane Rehm for highlighting and

discussing a topic which has been so misunderstood by

humans.  We see the aggressive side of nature as it is

played out, week after week, on The Discovery Channel and

National Explorer.  Yet, there are not many programs

which shows us the kinder side of animal nature.

Take care,

Marilyn.

deprive a soul of the sun and light, and of that proportion

of life and time she had been born into the world to

enjoy. "
