Guest guest
A few weeks ago, Vegetarian Network of Dallas (VegNOD) sent the first mass email to the DFW community protesting the gassing of unwanted animals in the Garland Shelter. It is a primary goal of VegNod to bring such matters to the attention of the compassionate public (FYI, Sulpher Springs, also gasses animals). Thanks so much to the many people who took up the battle to stop this heinously cruel gassing, among whom is a good friend, Jennifer Sellers. Jennifer had a letter published in Sunday's DMN (see below). Way to go, Jennifer! Congratulations to all the others who have taken up the battle to stop gassing of animals at Garland. Thank you for speaking for the voiceless. http://dallasmorningviewsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/letters-to-the/ Pets deserve peaceful death 4:35 PM Sun, Sep 13, 2009 Letter to the Editor Re: "Garland animal services attacked," by Rick Williams, Wednesday Letters. I read the letter to the editor from Rick Williams of the Garland City council about the city's insistence on euthanizing animals with carbon monoxide, and it made my quite sad. Williams doesn't like outsiders, however well meaning, messing in the city's business. If there is a problem, he says, they will solve it themselves. That is the problem -- they don't think they have one. Twelve states have stopped this method and six more are considering it. There's a reason for this. Progress moves slowly, unfortunately, and many suffer in the interim. The American Veterinary Medical Association may approve of this method, but they place conditions on this approval. Many vets and animal professionals disagree completely with this method. With this much controversy, why not just eliminate the doubt and think of the animals that our society threw away. At least give them a peaceful ending. Why is that too much to ask? Jennifer Sellers, Richardson
