Here are two more rare opportunities (see below) to comment on the Dallas Zoo's cruel treatment of Jenny and the five other elephants, who will crammed into a "too small space," (less than 1/2 acre for each elephant). Plus, children will be able to "pet" the elephants in the new exhibit! This willl be a great stress for the elephants. Jenny has PTSD, who currently stands in a corner facing a concrete wall to avoid spectators.

Elephants are too intelligent, senstive and self-aware to be held captive in zoos, circuses, wildlife parks, or by private owners. To be healthy, elephants need miles to roam miles each day, not a few feet. Jenny, Gypsy, and the four other elephants should be transferred to The Elephant Sanctuary today! Cross Post Widely, Please!

Please speak for them, as they cannot speak for themselves. Please post a comment on Dallas Observer and Dallas Morning News Blogs (click on story link), and write both a Letters to Editor.

Zoo's new habitat crowded

Re: "New habitat roars forward -- Giants of the Savanna exhibit 'going to be a game changer' -- Ambitious $31 million project will be home to 10 species, emphasize visitor interaction," last Friday news story.

It's so very sad. The Dallas Zoo continues down what seems to be a misguided path and doesn't offer well-thought-out responses for its choices.

The zoo has added a pittance more land and more elephants so that all the elephants can suffer together in an inappropriate, overcrowded habitat. So for $31 million, what's been accomplished?

Whose interests have been served? Surely not those of the animals still living at the zoo, at least from what I can see.

Hadn't really thought much about Jenny the Elephant or her myriad supporters till recently -- when Spike joined Dallas Zoo officials last week for a sneak peek at the Giants of the Savanna habitat, which prompted Jenny's friends to once more raise their collective trunks in support of her freedom, freedom, freedom! Anyway.I know Jenny's BFF Lily Tomlin doesn't celebrate a birthday till September 1, but look what I found for sale at a deep discount whilst searching for something entirely unrelated (the Internet is mysterious!): ORIGINAL PAINTING FROM JENNY THE ELEPHANT "DALLAS ZOO."

Not as complex as Pugmaliny, but also not as redundant as her imitators.
