Guest guest
Welcome! I've had great success making oatmeal for breakfast in the crockpot. I use regular milk, but I'm guessing that soy milk would be just as great! 1 cup oats 1 cup milk (or other) 1 cup diced fruit (any is fine - I like bananas) 1/4 brown sugar (original recipe said 1/2 cup, but I thought that was a bit much) 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp cinnamon I add all ingredients to the crockpot the night before, and have the timer set to turn on and cook on low for 3 hours so it's ready at 6am. I also spray the crock with non-stick spray first, since my crockpot is hot on the sides and things tend to stick. Guest guest
I make oatmeal this way too. Sometimes I use juice instead of soymilk. My favorite to use is apple cider. I also throw in nuts (I like walnuts or sunflower seeds) and ground flax seeds. Turns out really yummy. Guest guest
Hi everybody, Before going on the program my breakfast used to be just fruit and occasionally some ww bread. Now, since I need about 20-22g og protein, I'm having either some meat (chicken, beef or fish - I can't believe I am actually eating animals in the morning! ME! After being a fan of the Anti Diet and Diet for a New America!), or scrambled eggs, or some cheese, plus some ww toast. Eating meat is the only part of the program I'm not happy about. I have read that many people have cottage cheese for breakfast. Probably cottage cheese is different here, it's more like sour cream, and in order to get enough protein from it I would have to eat almost the whole container. Any other ideas? My mind goes blank at the breakfast table... Greetings from Buenos Aires, Agustina
Guest guest
Hello Augustina, If you are not happy about eating meat for breakfast, maybe we could help you introduce a few vegetarian options that would meet your protein requirement. -- omelette made with 2 eggs with veggies and about 50 g of grated cheese (about 22 g of protein) -- oatmeal with milk (soy or any other) and protein powder -- pancakes with pp in the batter -- nut butter on toast, 2 soft boiled eggs, smoothie made with soy milk (or any of the nut milks) and frozen berries -- shake with protein powder, oats (or some other brown like rice or millet) and fruit Hope you find something you like. Guest guest
Hi everybody, Mika, thanks for the ideas. They sound so attractive... Only that i should have explained that here in Buenos Aires protein powder is not available. The only kind they sell is the one used by body builders. I've read the contetns and side effects of those and I'm pretty sure it's not he same kind you are talking about here. As for soy milk, every kind available here is loaded with sugar. And nut milks don't exist. At all. I'm afraid I have to think in terms of very simple foods, like lentils, chick peas, beans, stuff like that. My husband is going to the US in March or April. Maybe I could ask him to bring a can of that miraculous protein powders! Which brands and flavours do you recommend? Where do you buy it? Thanks for being there! Guest guest
Could you order some protein powder from the radiant store? Do they ship to Argentina? Guest guest
I thought about that but it would be sooooo expensive. Buying anything in dollars is already expensive for us (there are $A 3 to the dollar) plus shipping and handling. It would be way to much for my budget. Thanks for the ideas, anyway! Guest guest
Hi Augustina I am not in the States either. I live in Croatia, on the Balkans, and believe me there is much more to choose from on the shelves of shops in Buenos Aires than here. > >The only kind they sell is the one used by body builders. I've >read the contetns and side effects of >those and I'm pretty sure >it's not he same kind you are talking about here. You are probably thinking of pp with added stuff for muscle growth, I am talking about plain protein powders. Nothing added. There are many of those on the BB market as well. Just read the label very carefully. It should contain nothing but protein (essential and non-essential amino acids). The one I am using is unflavoured whey and egg protein. Before step 6 I used pure whey isolate (lactose free), vanilla flavoured. Maybe you could phone all the health shops in your area and ask about any protein powders they might have? >As for soy milk, every kind available here is loaded with sugar. Would you be willing to make your own milk? >And nut milks don't exist. At all. Can't buy them here in Croatia either. But I make my own. If you are interested, google " almond milk " or " cashew milk " +recipe and you will get tons of recipes. It is really easy to make, you'll see. >I'm afraid I have to think in terms of very simple foods, like >lentils, chick peas, beans, stuff like that. No, you don't have to. <smile> But you can think in a DBA way i.e. make the best of what you can buy ready-made and make the rest at home. Don't be spooked, it is neither hard nor too time consuming, I promise you. <smile> We're here to help you find solutions. Warmly, Mika
Guest guest
Agustina, have you tried doing the shake? There are a ton of vegetarian protein powders out there.
