Guest guest
Hi, I'm Helen, new to the list, and live in Australia. For medical reasons my Dr has put me on a restricted diet which is as follows. NO Caffeine, sweet foods, processed foods, wheat, milk, yellow cheese, milk or chicken. YES Fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes/lentils, rice/oats etc, non fat yoghurt, cottage and riccotta cheeses. So it looks as if a vegetarian 'diet' is the way for me to go. I love Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Indian foods. I am allergic to soy which gives me humungeous migraines as well as depression. How do I get enough protein, particularly at breakfast? All the protein powders I've found are either whey or soy based. Hugz, Helen.

Guest guest
Helen, Naturade makes a soy free, whey free protein . I believe it is brown rice based. I use it sometimes in my shake. I buy it at Whole Foods or my local organic market. Also, some people really like cottage cheese for their protein at breakfast. And can you eat eggs? Heather on behalf of Helen W. Guest guest
It's because of my arthritis and fibromyalgia, Kathleen. I've always had to be carefull of caffeine, meat and wheat - any more than 3 cups tea/coffee a day and my fingers stiffen; more than 2 meals of meat a week and 2 slices of bread a day have the same effect. Never connected it with arthritis before though. Helen. Helen, can you speak a little of the *medical* reasons, so we have a context. Thanks, kathleen> For medical reasons my Dr has put me on a restricted diet which is> as follows. >> NO Caffeine, sweet foods, processed foods, wheat, milk,> yellow cheese, milk or chicken.>> YES Fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes/lentils, rice/oats> etc, non fat yoghurt, cottage and riccotta cheeses. >> So it looks as if a vegetarian 'diet' is the way for me to go. Guest guest
Thanks Heather. I've just done a web search and found there is one store in Toowoomba - 35 kms away - that sells Naturade. Have to go into town this week, so will pay them a visit. I don't mind cottage cheese and last night came upon a way to make your own - seems easy so will give it a try. Can eat eggs, but there is a limit to how many I can eat in a day. I need 30 gms protein each meal Helen. Helen, Naturade makes a soy free, whey free protein . I believe it is brown rice based.
