Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have a sprouter since a while, but no matter what I do the sprouts either come out mouldy or not at all. May be it is because I'm not exactly what you'd call a green thumb! Do you have any tips to share?? Wishing you a good weekend Yours Sabine
Guest guest
Hey Sabine Sorry, can't help you with that. I buy sprouts in a health store, I've never been any good at sprouting at home. <smile>. Hope others can help you. You have a nice weekend too. It's been snowing here again so I'll be thinking of you sipping your morning shake in the sun. Guest guest
When I'm in the mood for Sprouts, just buy them " Fresh " from the Whole Foods Market. If they don't look, smell, or taste fresh, simply pitch them. A friend of mine in Portland, grows his own and he claims that you really have to watch what your doing, too much work for too little benifit as far as I'm concerned. I don't have a green thumb. I've even killed a Cactus, now that's low.... I also don't do Wheat Grass. Cut too many lawn's in High School to pay for College (University of Maryland, College Park), just can't get the Wheat Grass juice past my lips into my mouth, oh well. Guest guest
LOL, Bob! Who'd have thought - look at us, a bunch of vegetarians, not a green thumb among us! Mika >I don't have a green thumb. Guest guest
I've grown all kinds of sprouts and I grew them for quite a while back in my earth-mama-wannabe days -- and I also grow wheat grass for my kitty, LOL... I don't juice the wheat grass or eat it myself, though. About the sprouts, I think the main thing is to keep them well rinsed, and also keep them from staying too wet -- they need to be rinsed regularly (2-3x/day, more often in really warm weather) and then drained very thoroughly. I used to use the sprouter tops that fit over a wide mouthed canning jar; that made it really easy to just upend the whole jar when I rinsed them, and that way they drained really thoroughly. I never had any trouble with mold. :-) Val , " Bob " <yogabob7 wrote: > > When I'm in the mood for Sprouts, just buy them " Fresh " from the Whole Foods Market. Guest guest
Hey Val I grow wheat grass for my cats too, but I must be as bad at it as I am at sprouting, because they still prefer eating the house plants. Warmly, Mika >I've grown all kinds of sprouts and I grew them for quite a while >back in my earth-mama-wannabe days -- and I also grow wheat grass >for my kitty, LOL... Guest guest
Sprouts are really very easy and " brown thumbs " can do it. My experience with sprouting is that you have to make sure that they are drained VERY well. Some brands of sprouters don't allow all the water to drain out. VERY BAD! I soak the seeds in water for several hours, then drain well, leaving the jar, tray, whatever tipped slightly so that the surface tension is released and any water will continue to drain. Cover so they are in the dark. Rinse with lukewarm water morning and night. If your house is real warm, like in the summer, you might have to rinse more times a day. Guest guest
- Hi Connie, Thanks for the tip. I think my sprouts always had " wet feet " and didn't really like it. I'll try it again and this time angle the container a bit for better drainage.
