this sounds really good, what kind of spices were in this? i'm finding that a lot of dishes are kinda bland, (when i make them on my own, that is) so what would you use to spice this up? (i recently cooked a spinich cashew crepe thing and it sounded delicious, when i made it it was bland. thanks!

Hi Sharon,

I'm with you on the bland thing... although I should say that as I've been

reducing my salt intake, I have noticed more subtle flavors... Getting rid of

salt has been a real trip in itself. I really need to focus on my food to

extract the flavor. It's like salt gives food taste but it takes the taste of

food away - from my taste buds.

I have discovered some spices and foods that give flavor that I have always

liked but began to not use just because salt was more convenient. I love dill,

garlic, onion, pepper, fines herbes, tarragon, rosemary, basil, cilantro,

parsley, epazote...

Anyway, just wanted to say how I can read a recipe and think YUMMM and then

wonder where all the flavor went!

Lucinda, what does epazote taste like? I

had a recipe for tortilla soup I made, but couldn’t find epazote and didn’t

know what to replace it with. The soup was bland without it, so for future

reference it would be great to know what flavors might be compropable :)

Hi Lucinda,

Glad to see you on this list too!

I made a veggie/chicken soup last night it was great! Of course any strict veg's could delete the chicken. celery, onion, carrots, turnips, parsenips, parsley, dill salt & pepper and added ww noodles it

was so good full of flavor.
