Guest guest
Hey Bob Legumes (beans, peas, lentils, garbanzos/chickpeas) are all lacking in the same amino acid: methionine, so combining kidney beans and garbanzos won't give you complete protein. But you will get all amino acids by combining legumes with grains (lacking in lysine) like brown rice, rye, wheat, cornmeal, barley, millet, oats, buckwheat ... or nuts and seeds (also lacking in lysine). Hope this helps. Warmly, Mika >Sharon, > >The combination of Garbanzo and Kidney Beans are complementry >proteins = to a steak >from what I've been told. Guest guest
So peas are legumes? I’m new to this whole protein/vegetarian thing….i mean I haven’t eaten meats in a long time but I am unfamiliar with vegetarian meals and getting enough protein in them. so if I make peas and brown rice, I’ll have a complete protein? I don’t know that I’ll like beans much…I guess I have to learn how to make them in different recipies and give them a try. kim On Behalf Of Bob Wednesday, March 29, 2006 9:20 AM To: Re: combining protein Chickpea Salad Hi Mika, I'm alway's having browns with every meal, eat lot's of brown rice and whole wheat. Guest guest
Hey Kim, Yes, peas are legumes, as are beans. And yes, the combination of peas and brown rice will give you all the amino acids your body needs to make complete protein, BUT as both peas and rice are low in protein you would have to eat an awful lot of peas and rice in one meal to get an average amount of protein. Maybe it would be helpful to check out some vegetarian sites - they usually have good on-line guides to food combining. HTH Mika So peas are legumes? I'm new to this whole protein/vegetarian thingŠ.i mean I haven't eaten meats in a long time but I am unfamiliar with vegetarian meals and getting enough protein in them. so if I make peas and brown rice, I'll have a complete protein?
