Guest guest
One of my life goals was to hike up Pikes Peak. About 5 years ago went there with my buddy from Minn, we were in " great shape " and ready to roll, but the elevation got the best of us after about 6 hours. We had to come back down. So I've alway's wanted to go to the top. Went back on Monday with my DW (who's not in the best shape) and we purchased tickets for the COGS train and were at the summit in about 1.5 hours. It was so great, just loved every second of it. It feels so good to hit one of your goals even if it's via a different path (train vs. hiking). It was such a clear day we could see New Mexico & I was very thankful for the RR program and the fact that Ranch exists, and that it's coming up soon. Also looked over on the other side and saw Kansas, it was wonderful & so flat.... We took soybeans, almonds, triscuits, & lot's of water with us on the ride and summit. Kind of funny that on some day's this is my regular food, not just for hiking or trips. There was a snack bar with the usual garbage, was thankful for not having to eat any of that slop. Just wanted to share. Bob
Guest guest
Bob that sounds like a wonderful day. I love that recovery can allow us to experience things so fully. Guest guest
Bob, Congratulations for doing the peak. I looked up Pikes peak on Google. I am from India and I always wanted to do these peaks. Now maybe I can. Did you have to take special warm clothes etc. I would like to go up by train and come down same day. Can this be done? Guest guest
To anyone inspired to follow in Bob's footsteps, I would say, don't miss the Garden of the Gods. It is incredible...at least I remember it as being incredible from when I was a little girl. Thanks for the great memories, Bob. Pikes Peak is definitely part of my formative years!
