Guest guest
Is this just plain oatmeal you used, or steel cut oats? Kim On Behalf Of Heather Monday, May 01, 2006 1:57 PM shaking things up with the shake Today for breakfast I tried something new (ok, so technically I tried this once before, but it's still sorta new LOL). I cooked my oats before putting them in my shake. Normally, I put raw oats in, but a lot of time the bottom of my shake ends up pretty gritty, and I don't know how much of the oats I end up eating because of that. And I know shakes don't hold me as long as real food, so I thought I'd give cooked oats a try! So I used almond milk, two scoops of George's Restore, maybe 1/4 cup frozen blueberries, fish oil, and then, a cup of oatmeal (I cooled it in the freezer). Well the verdict is I like it! I like the taste, the consistency is fine, and, most importantly, it held me longer Heather
Guest guest
Kim, I used plain oatmeal, but I know someone who uses steel cut oats already cooked in her shakes. They are thicker that way. Guest guest
Okay, thanks. I will probably use plain oatmeal, I think it’s easier to prepare. Guest guest
I agree. Although I’m thinking about trying the steal cut oats one week… Just making up a big batch on Sunday or something. Guest guest
Yeah let me know how that goes, if you try it. Yes, I am a regular shake drinker. It’s so quick, and I like it. I use this protein powder I get from trader joes, it has stevia in it, so that makes it sweet (I don’t have to give up sugar yet, I’m only on step 2). I have to say I am getting a bit bored with it though. I need to come up with something else. Right now I use either vanilla or chocolate flavor powder with peanut butter, half a bananna and flax oil. Guest guest
Hmm, here are some tricks I’ve done: Carob powder and decaf instant coffee grounds for a mocha flavor Frozen mango chunks (Trader Joe’s has them) Frozen cherries (also from Trader Joe’s) Nothing too elaborate, but still, maybe a few new things for you to try . Guest guest
I use George’s Restore, from the RR store. It’s delicious! I have on occasion used Naturade’s whey and soy free protein powder, but honestly, it’s not as good LOL. Yes, Almond milk is wonderful! I use it in my shakes all the time. My husband prefers oatmilk, it’s sweeter, but something else you could try. I don’t know if it would be considered expensive or not, that’s a relative term… but it probalby costs more then regular milk. Another alternative is to make your own using the soymilk maker in the store. Heather On Behalf Of kjanes May 02, 2006 9:13 AM RE: shaking things up with the shake Thanks Heather! Guest guest
Here's mine...I've grown to love it and have it every day: In a blender put 2 cups cold water, add 1/3 cup rolled oats, 1/4 cup non-fat powdered milk, 1/4 cup soy protein isolate and blend well. Add 1/4 frozen banana and blend until you don't hear any frozen banana bouncing around in the blender. Yum! Connie
Guest guest
How much protein per scoop? I need 22 grams. And does the powder have the required program vitamins in it? I’m trying to figure out if it would be cheaper for me to continue to buy my vitamins and protein powder, or switch to George’s and get it all in one. Kim On Behalf Of Heather Monday, May 01, 2006 1:57 PM To: shaking things up with the shake Today for breakfast I tried something new (ok, so technically I tried this once before, but it's still sorta new LOL).
Guest guest
There are 15 grams per scoop in the George’s Restore, so you’d need 1 and a half scoops. This shake mix doesn’t have the vitamins or oats in it. The regular George’s shake does have the vitamins and oats in it, so you might want to try that one. Heather On Behalf Of kjanes May 02, 2006 10:50 AM RE: shaking things up with the shake How much protein per scoop? I need 22 grams. And does the powder have the required program vitamins in it? I’m trying to figure out if it would be cheaper for me to continue to buy my vitamins and protein powder, or switch to George’s and get it all in one. On Behalf Of Butler, Heather Tuesday, May 02, 2006 10:39 AM RE: shaking things up with the shake Hmm, that’s a good question. I don’t eat shake every day. I like real food on the weekends . So maybe a month by my method? I use 2 scoops a meal. Heather On Behalf Of kjanes Tuesday, May 02, 2006 10:31 AM RE: shaking things up with the shake Thanks Heather! How long does the George’s Restore last you before you have to re-order? On Behalf Of Butler, Heather Tuesday, May 02, 2006 9:27 AM RE: shaking things up with the shake I use George’s Restore, from the RR store. I’m going to Trader Joe’s tomorrow to get vanilla protein powder. I’m going to pick up the Mango and cherry chunks and try them. I’m not big on coffee. What kind of protein powder do you use? And is Almond milk good? Is it expensive? I use skim milk in my shakes. On Behalf Of Butler, Heather Tuesday, May 02, 2006 8:12 AM RE: shaking things up with the shake Hmm, here are some tricks I’ve done: Carob powder and decaf instant coffee grounds for a mocha flavor Frozen mango chunks (Trader Joe’s has them) Frozen cherries (also from Trader Joe’s) Nothing too elaborate, but still, maybe a few new things for you to try . Anyone else wanna share their shake recipes? Heather On Behalf Of kjanes May 01, 2006 3:55 PM RE: shaking things up with the shake Yeah let me know how that goes, if you try it. On Behalf Of Butler, Heather Monday, May 01, 2006 3:26 PM RE: shaking things up with the shake I agree. Although I’m thinking about trying the steal cut oats one week… Just making up a big batch on Sunday or something. I’ll post here if I do end up doing that Kim are you a regular shake drinker? Heather On Behalf Of kjanes May 01, 2006 3:13 PM RE: shaking things up with the shake Okay, thanks. I will probably use plain oatmeal, I think it’s easier to prepare. Guest guest
LOL, I just cracked up at the “blend until you don’t hear any frozen banaba bouncing around”, that’s my rule with frozen mango too LOL Sounds wonderful! Heather On Behalf Of Connie Cheney May 02, 2006 10:43 AM RE: shaking things up with the shake Here's mine...I've grown to love it and have it every day: In a blender put 2 cups cold water, add 1/3 cup rolled oats, 1/4 cup non-fat powdered milk, 1/4 cup soy protein isolate and blend well. Add 1/4 frozen banana and blend until you don't hear any frozen banana bouncing around in the blender. Yum! Connie
