Thanks for the kind thoughts. I'm doing OK. I have two other fosters with me

right now. One is leaving tomorrow, I hope, to go to another rescue in Austin.

The other might be staying with me, her original foster mom is having to move

suddenly so I'm not sure... Sandy misses her old foster. Poor kid. I'll leave

them out in the yard today, the other one isn't even crate potty trained yet.

I am so bad about this pet thing. Last night I was shopping and one of the

clercs mentioned a new puppy she got and I asked her if she was going to neuter

it. Like I had any business dong that! She was and was nice about me butting

in, but...

Thanksgiving, I hate to say it, but I eat meat. I eat veg at home and mainly

when I go out, but to keep the family peace, I don't say anything. My choice of

lack of religion is enough contention for one house, thank you. Plus, I love

ethnic food and traveling and yall think it's hard to eat veg here, try

traveling in third world countries. Frankly, alot of the time I'm happy to have

food of any nature. So, to keep my intestines able to digest it, I eat a bit of

it here... But I do respect all you who are strict veg, I would love to do that

someday.

Off to work...

I know how you feel! That's how I am about childbirth

(I'm studying Midwifery). When I see a pregnant

woman/or new Mom I pump her full of questions about

how she plans to birth, whether or not she's going/is

nursing...I'm sure it drives people crazy but I can't

help it! I'm a HUGE advocate of homebirth and feel

that there is no other option but to breastfeed. I

have to bite my tongue...HARD sometimes. Same thing

about cloth diapering, though I'm not too wacko about

that.

One day I'll keep everything to myself.

Warmly,

Allison

I was a child dev major in college and took a lot of prenatal and infant

development classes. I am sure I drove everyone crazy with all my unsolicitated

advice at baby showers and the like. I, too, wanted to share all of my newfound

knowledge with the world. Now, having had the experience of giving birth to

and raising five children of my own, I have been properly humbled. Things do

not always go as planned and by the current birthing and parenting fads. It can

all turn out quite well regardless. There IS more than one way to do it all

successfully.

Cheers,

Anne

Yep...

I agree. I'm not into the FAD's either, I'm

traditional and old fashioned with everything. I

don't believe giving birth w/o tons of drugs is in

style, its what we've done for thousands of years.

Luckily I've experienced both so I do have a

comparison. And, as a doula and Childbirth Educator,

I've been exposed to so many other's experiences. And

unfortunately there is that 10% out there that don't

have a choice due to complications.

Parenting...Well that's a different story entirely.

What works for the goose doesn't always work for the

gander. I think we should all just run on our

instincts as parents and let our children guide us as

we guide them. I would never give someone advice

about that...Though I'm sure I'll join the ranks with

all the Gramma's out there that do, one day.

Warmly,

Allison

Hi everyone,

I've been reading/listening in on this list on and off for a few

months. I'm a pre-school teacher and this last post reminds me of a

kid's book called Ten Seeds where something happens to all but the last

seed/plant, which then produces another ten seeds. It's very cute and

well illustrated. You'll have to look for it Heather and Michelle.

I appreciate all the menu ideas. I'm not totally vegetarian, but

am trying to go that direction. I too am interested in that recipe for

sprouted wheat bread.

Here's a recipe that I enjoyed recently using sprouted lentils.

It's from a book called Stevia Sweet Recipes by Jeffrey Goettemoeller and

it tastes fine without the stevia sweetener.

Apple Lentil Salad

2 cups chopped apples

2 tsp. lemon juice

1/4 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup sprouted lentils

1/4 cup chopped celery

2-4 Tbs. currants

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1/8 tsp. stevia powder

Hi Mary, thanks for the recipe. It

sounds delicious (without the Stevia). By the way, it’s ok to post a

recipe modified to be completely program friendly, even if it’s from

another source, you can just let us know it was modified. In other words, it

would’ve been ok (even preferred) to leave the Stevia out. I do that all

the time <grin>.

Hmm, if I made this recipe I’d use

another nut, maybe almonds? Chopped and roasted almonds, actually. (I’m

allergic to walnuts, but I’ve found other nuts work as well). What do

you think, would that be good?
