I met a friend for lunch today at a vegetarian restaurant here in

Albuquerque (Green Light Bistro). I had a " brunch burrito " that had

seasoned scrambled tofu, black beans, and brown rice rolled up in a

sprouted wheat tortilla, with a fancy-greens salad and the most

awesome french fries I've ever had. The burrito was topped with a red

salsa which was a little too hot for me, LOL... I am finally learning

that New Mexico salsa is by default a LOT spicier than Oregon salsa! I

think I'll ask them to serve that to me on the side next time.

But, it was yummm...

Sounds really good. I really like spicy foods. Last week in NYC had a couple

of Yam and

Yucca Fries, they were tasty.

Hope you had a good time with your friend....

I'd say " a handful " based on my perusal of the Yellow Pages, LOL...

and a couple of those listed in the Vegetarian category are East

Indian restaurants, which are omnivorous but have awesome vegetarian

options. More veggie places near the University, as one might imagine.

There could be others that may not be in the YP though. It's fun to

explore!

I was checking out the ones in the DC

area. I would say it’s much of the same. A handful of full vegetarian

ones, and many more that have great vegetarian options.

Sharon, what I did was do a search through the Washington Post's website. They have a city guide section that is pretty informative (actually I bet all big city papers would have this option) that has a restaurant search. You may want to play around with that yourself :).

But here's a few I found--Amma's Vegetarian Kitchen. It's an Indian restauarant in Georgetown that always gets rave reviews. In fact its one of the Washingtonian magezines "cheap eats" every year. Java Green in Midtown looks pretty good too. And there's Soul Vegetarian Cafe near Howard U in DC--how fun that must be! And finally there's Sunflower Vegetarian Cafe in Vienna, VA. A bit of a drive for you, but maybe worth it if you were in that area for the day :).

I'm also willing to bet if you looked in the yellow pages for restaurants in Tacoma Park you'd find a lot of vegetarian options there, I know a lot of vegetarians that live in that area.

I have been to Amma Vegetarian and I love it (both DC and Vienna). You just have to watch

for whites because there is no brown rice.

I also tried Sunflower a few years ago and I remember it being good too,

but that was preprogram.
