Hi everyone,

I'm Tania and I'm new to this list. I just started

Step 3. I feel a little guily for being here as I'm

not a vegetarian. I did give up all meat and poultry

for, oh, about, three years (still ate fish), but

began eating meat & poultry again while I was pregnant

three years ago.

I value your commitment to a crulty free lifestyle,

and wish I could do the same, however at the moment I

am still eating meat, as I mentioned. But, I am

committed to eating it, at the most, only once per

day, so therefore I almost always have a vegetarian

lunch. Occassionally tuna. Frequently I have beans

of some sort, and sometimes eggs. Down the line I'd

love to get some nice bean ideas from you guys (and

give you some of mine. :)

However, what prompted me to write was the tapioca

pudding post! For breakfast, I frequently make steel

cut oats with cottage cheese melted into it (an idea I

got from Elaine on the Breakfast group. I add honey

and sometimes raisins. When I refrigerate the

leftovers, particularly, if there are raisins in it,

to me it tastes just like rice pudding! Which I

absolutely adore, but is a total trigger food for me!

Anyway, happy eating,

Tania

Hi Tania,

Thank you for steping up, it's nice to hear your voice. It's really ok to not

be a vegetarian,

partial vegetarian, full vegetarian, or vegan here on this list. Sounds like

you needed very

dense protein to make it through this recent chapter in your life. What's

important is that

your here right now and connecting with this list.

@Ranch Elaine was trying to get me to try the oatmeal and cottage cheese combo

as well.

I will soon and let you know what I think.

A HUGE WELCOME!!!!!

Thanks SO much for the warm welcome, Bob! I look

forward to trading ideas with everybody!

Regarding the oatmeal & cottage cheese, it took me a

long time to try it, cause I thought it seemed

" unappetizing " <smile>...but that is not so!

Particularly if you experiment and find out how to

make the cottage cheese totally melt into the oatmeal,

it just makes it creamy, as though you had added milk

to it (I find no need to add milk to it). For me the

trick to getting the cottage cheese to melt was (a)

experimenting with different brands (b) using a good

quality pot. Once the water is absorbed, add the

cottage cheese. (With a good quality pot, you barely

have to worry about stirring it, either). In about 10

minutes the cottage cheese is completely melted at

which point I add honey! (and sometimes let it cook a

few more minutes). My journal told me not to use

raisins anymore, but the raisins, if you use them, are

good to add with the cottage cheese, so they have some

time to get plump!

Anyway, that's just how I do it; any way you do it is

fine...it's fun to experiment with babysteps. I tell

myself, when trying new things sometimes, " it may not

be perfect the first time around, but I can tweak it,

and tweak it, and eventually, it will be just right! "

<smile> I'm trying to apply that principal to RR in

general, as well. Particulary, my brand new Step 3.

<smile>

Happy eating!

Tania

Hi Tania and everybody,

I would like to respond to your message although it has been some

time since you posted it.

I wanted to share that I can really relate to what u are saying. I

decided to become a vegetarian recently mainly because of ethical

reasons like yourself. Perhaps, I have picked the wrong time;

starting PnP steps; I need 38g of protein at each meal. It has been

driving me mad measuring and counting protein grams. I feel so guilty

to want to give in to meat which will be so easy.

I was doing OK with breakfast at stage 1 but someting I ate had a

reaction - ate some frozen vegie burgers but they didn't agree with

me. I haven't learnt to 'listen to my body' yet. I don't know what

else it could have been that made me feel unwell. This then caused me

to 'rebel' and I have messed up breakfast. I am feeling very awful

and ashamed. I am so mad at myself and feel I do not deserve to be

here. Especially, when I read how the other good people in this

community are coping. I take my hat of to people who have dedicated

themselves to a cruel-free lifestyle.

I am also dairy intolerant which adds to the complications. My

counsellor says to ease up on myself. Perhaps, I have put too much

pressure on me.

I think perhaps I need to fix myself before I embark on saving

animals and making a difference for them. But then, maybe I am making

excuses for myself.

Furthermore, have u noticed the ingredients of the faux meat version

of certain products.....very disappointing.

Sorry for long message. Hope u are all doing well.

Best wishes,

Irenie

Hi Irenie,

I understand your frustration with doing the plan as a vegetarian. I was having these myself until I started using an online nutrition counter program. I had been only counting certain foods as protein, like beans, dairy, eggs, nuts. I need about the same amount of protein that you do at each meal and it seemed impossible and like I had to eat so much food to do it. I even gained weight.

When I entered all my food into this counter I found that I was way over for the needed protein. There is a lot of protien in whole grains, for instance, a cup of cooked oat bran has 8 grams and a cup of cooked amaranth has 12. Even most vegetables and fruits have some protein. What I have found now is that I have to carefully curtail my food so that I don't get too much protein. Also, I am now eating vegan and easily get all the protein required even without eggs and dairy.

Good luck to you. The transition has been somewhat time-consuming, but I am certain that the results to my health will be worth it.

one more thing, most, if not all, veggie burgers, etc, are made with at least one kind of sugar, which for me triggers me into addictive eating. There are many names for sugar like maltodextrin, etc, and these and other refined starches are in these burgers. My body can't handle them, but I'm sure they are okay for some people.

Hi Irenie,

I'm glad you posted, and that my post resonated with

you. I don't know what is best for you, but support

you as you work on figuring it out.

I relate to what you said about perhaps needing to

heal first, before being able to take on additional

responsibilities.

Perhaps posting on the main board can help you as

well.

Be kind to yourself and do the best you can! That's

all we can do! <smile>
