Sprouting Beans

Hi Sharon,

 

The basic for sprouting beans is soak the beans for 12-48 hours. Change water after 12 hours. You can use a towel or jar method. I sprouted black beans using a towel. I use a glass lasagna dish and a white dish towel.

 

I wet the dish towel and placed it the lasagna dish. Drain the beans and place them in the dish. I rinsed the beans and towel in the morning and evening. Do this for 3-5 days. Put the dish in a unheated oven. They need to have darkness to sprout.

 

Larger beans take longer to sprout. A great website is www.sproutpeople.com

Deanna - Thanks for the tip. In all these years of sprouting beans, I never thought to put the jar in the oven! I always used a cleared-out cupboard for that purpose. What a great idea! Now, where am I going to hide all my dirty dishes when unexpected company shows up, if the oven is full of sprouting beans?
