Guest guest
This year I am cooking. For 2 parents, 2 in-laws, 1 sis-in-law + her DH, her 2 teens and a teen " friend " , and of course my immediate family, (self, dh, 15 mo old, 7 year old, 2 teens), 1 friend + baby. As there are only 3 of us veggie, I have 17 yo dear-step-son preparing bird, tomorrow we will warm ham. Beyond that, everything on the table will be veggie, most low fat (some just lower-fat-than-the-original). Several dishes will be veganized! They'll never know unless they ask! Ha! <grin> Beth Cindi <cindi93069 wrote: So what is everyone doing for the holiday weekend, if you celebrate it? Kymberli & I are having a small meal at home (Harvest Pot Pie & sage stuffing) with just the 2 of us on Thanksgiving. Friday I have a surprise daytrip planned for us. :-) What are all you doing? And if you go to large gatherings, do they respect your vegetarianism? I hope you all have a great time no matter what you do... Guest guest
Hey & happy Thanksgiving! My SIL is making a turkey (which thankfully I didn't have to touch or deal with) and I'm making veggie " sausage " apple stuffing, vegetarian gravy, taters, green bean casserole, YUMM! Also made apple crisp, punkin pie, and pecan pie! Yay for Thanksgiving LOL Whit Roslyn <daisyducc wrote: Thanks for the warm welcome! I will be going to my parents for Thanksgiving, and am taking a red cabbage, cranberry and apple slaw recipe that I found in the Cooking Light Holiday Cookbook. Even though my stepmom is also a weight watcher, she doesn't usually change her holiday recipes, so I like to bring something that I have made and can easily account for. Otherwise, my plan is to choose wisely and enjoy the people more than the food. Have a great long weekend, Roslyn ~*~Whitney~*~ Feminism is the radical notion that women are people. Guest guest
That sounds great Beth! That's good that you have someone that prepare the meat for those who have to have it. Good job sneakin in the veganized dishes too! Have a great day. Cindi Beth Adams <puzabeth wrote: This year I am cooking. Guest guest
Yea, that's what we normally do too...just eat around the meat. Last year though we went out to my folks house and found a good hearty veg meal to make so my mom was kind of enough to get the ingredients and then we whipped it together while she cooked other stuff. Turned out my aunt that was there was also vegetarian and loved having a main dish she could eat too! Guest guest
Sounds like you have the right notion of what the " holiday period " is like Rosyln! Enjoying the people more than the food. I wish more people thought that way. Cindi Roslyn <daisyducc wrote: Thanks for the warm welcome! Guest guest
Wow you're taking on a lot of dishes Whitney! The veggie sausage apple stuffing sounds delish! You should share the recipe with us, even though it probably wouldn't be considered " slimming " ... I love stuffing and having new & different ones. I'm making a sage & onion stuffing today. Guest guest
I just ordered a new book called Hallelujah Holiday Recipes. It's a mixture of raw and cooked vegetarian recipes for the holidays. My plan is to revamp our current holiday menu to make it more healthful. For me, getting the right amount of protein with a brown and watching the timing of when I eat will be critical if I seriously plan to avoid a binge.
