Guest guest
Hello All - I'm sooo thankful I've found this book and that there is an on-line community to add additional support! I've know I'm a sugar addict for sometime, but was at a loss as to what to do about it! This book has given me hope that I can continue to create a healthier me! I've recently mad a decision to change my lifestyle- to a positive loving myself way of life - instead of the destructive behaviors i have clinged to in the past; SOOOO -I quit smoking, weaned off the caffeinated coffee (still drink decaf - but I working on it) I'm trying to go to the gym MOST days AND I want to change my diet to be a healthy vegetarian with out sugar! Mostly I eat well - lost of veggies, protein in the AM, but the Sugar is hard to get rid of! (I think it is worse than quitting smoking for me!) I would love to hear what others on the board have done - and get your insight on how you mad this journey! Looking forward to participating! Guest guest
Hi Michelle, welcome to the group! Can you talk more about where you are in your program? It sounds like you must just be starting breakfast (step one), yes? What kinds of things are you having? Are you eating within an hour of getting up? It's not clear to me if you're already vegetarian or if you're trying to switch. It's important because I think it would be hard to implement too many dietary changes all at once, you know? Following the Radiant Recovery program is its whole own new way of eating. Eating vegetarian is another whole new way of eating (if it's new). And then putting them together is yet a third whole new way of eating. Just something to think about...one of the things we learn following the RR program is how to be gentle and loving with ourselves. And that going slowly is a GOOD thing. :-) I arrived at this program having been a vegetarian for many years, so that piece was already in place for me. I actually think being vegetarian was a huge benefit because I already had lots of experience in terms of setting boundaries with my food and letting people gently know what I eat and don't eat. I also felt like I had been a healthy eater for a long time, and yet I could feel in my body that something wasn't right, something wasn't working right, I didn't feel my best. So finding RR and this new way of eating was the key to sorting that out, and now I feel great. I was just on vacation last week, and my partner was marvelling to me how I just don't eat sugar anymore. We were surrounded by people eating ice cream and cinnamon rolls and soda all day long, and my partner still eats sugar (he's not SS, so he'll eat a candy bar over several days). I used to spend my vacations eating that stuff too, and now, it's just not an issue. I'm not tempted, and I don't think about it. It was so freeing to let go of that obsession. (I'm two and a half years on the program, by the way: step 7.) Anyway, hope some of this rumination is interesting to you as you start this journey. Talk to us more about what you're eating.
