RR travel resource?

Travel has been (and remains) the greatest challenge for me as a sugar-free

vegetarian. I have gotten infinitely better at just bringing my own food, but I

do love to eat out, and there are some delightful restaurants out there that

meet our needs. It just takes such an effort to find them.

I would love, love, love to someday have some kind of database on the RR website

where we could punch in the name of the city or area we'll be visiting and get a

list of restaurant and even grocery story names with reviews from the RR

community. For example, I could provide a good list of names and info on places

in San Diego (where I live). I could also provide weblinks so people could check

out the menus themselves.

Is there anything like this in the works that anyone knows about? Kathleen?

Cheers,

Sharon in CA

I would also love information on both grocery stores and whole foods markets

that are within a few miles of major highways. It would really help having

that information while planning long road trips because usually the only

types of food places that are advertised on highways are fast food

restaurants.

If everyone who was in RR would add in information about their home cities

or places we all know well then pretty soon we would have a very nice

database of RR friendly restaurants as well as grocery stores that are

convenient to reach while traveling.

I would be happy to volunteer my time and resources in helping put something

like this together because I feel one of the hardest things about leaving

home is not knowing for sure where to get my food!

Nothing in the works <smile>

Would you like to gather it? We certainly can compile it.

Hi -

When I travel, I often use Happy Cow. It shouldn't be too hard to call ahead

(many restaurants post their menus on-line) and check for sugar-free,

swetener-free options.

I think it is a wonderful idea. I have a a little list called radiant

travel.Should I open it up for those of you who might like to work on

this?

Yeah! That would be really useful. We can use the database for RR friendly

restaurants in general and then maybe another one for RR friendly grocery

stores and restaurants that are really convenient to get to while on the

road (say less than 1 mile from the interstate, without having to make any

turns off that main road).

I am happy to contribute. I have a feeling that the omnivores will want to play,

too - so let's be certain that all contributors indicate which restaurants are

completely vegetarian or vegan (some of us prefer not to watch our dining

companions eat meat), and which are all-purpose but have plenty of vegetarian

and vegan options!

Yes, I'm willing to help with this too.

I agree that the database section might be useful. In addition to

tables for " chain " restaurants and grocery stores to look for, we could create a

table for each city.

I agree with Gail, I would like to make sure as this idea spreads to the larger

community that we try to ensure that the vegetarian aspect is kept in the

picture.

I don't see radiant travel on the RR website. Kathleen, do you need to send

invitations to those of us who are interested? Or what should we do next?

Or should we start working on the databases here in this group to get started?

allows for ten fields in the record. Some ideas are:

name

website or phone #

street address

city / area (i.e., downtown, north county, etc.)

freeway and exit

type of food (Indian, Italian, etc.)

vegetarian, vegan, or omni

sit down or take out

types of browns

potato with skin?

Cheers,

Sharon in CA
