Guest guest
Hi everyone, I would like to touch base a little on the purpose of the list and some creative ideas for the future. We set the list up to support those of you who are vegetarian ( or wanting to be so) to learn how to do the seven steps and do the program in that context. A lot of energy went into the whole issue of what and how to count as protein grams. I would like to reframe that question this time around. What I would like to suggest is that you learn the steps and do the steps just like anyone else. This means looking at your protein needs with the same ratio - ie .4 - .6 grams of protein for each pound of your body weight each day. When you count proteins, just count dense sources like beans, tofu, tempeh, nuts, protein powders, eggs and cheese. Do not get into counting the protein in breads and other grains or carbs. See how this comes in. Let’s talk about this. And let’s talk about how you feel. What is key is that you are getting enough to eat and on time. It is totally possible to do the program as vegetarian. It simply means learning how much protein your sources have. So the focus will be on the steps....how to do them and h ow to make wonderful food that you love. Does this make sense? Guest guest
Dearest Kathleen, *It is totally possible to do the program as vegetarian.* " Vegetarian " = " Agree " , it will work, no doubt.... " Vegan " = Extended period of time " Very Challanging " (for me) eating Vegan Food Only. Perhaps for a lighter weight person = ok? Have no desire 'what-so-ever' for fish, eggs, & dairy products, but to sustain, my biochemical balance & radiance they are needed (6'2.5 " 200+/# guy). Peace Love & Light for All, Bob

Guest guest
Hi, Kathleen. I fall under the " wanting to be so " category. <smile> I'm new to this list and new to trying to eat this way. I'm here to learn how others have stayed stable on RR while eating a less meat-centered diet. I want to do that, but don't have the desire (or room in my life <smile>) to crash and burn trying! LOL At the same time, my health is screaming for me to make this change right now. I'm here hoping to glean some insights from those who have been doing it for some time - without compromising their RR program. I think my next step is to study the protein content of the nuts/legumes, etc. Thanks for looking out for your lists and keeping them on target - it's sometimes so easy to get off track. <smile> Peace and Joy, Barbara Jackson, NJ Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. Guest guest
Yes...my own experience with trying to be a vegan on the program is that I can do it for around a month before I start to feel less and less stable. I have tried 3 or 4 times now, and believe me, wanting it to happen just won't make it work, LOL! Vegetarian has worked well for me when I am *very* careful about counting only the dense proteins. Except for some reason, I am not able to get away with vegetarian during my pregnancies. My babies just want meat to grow, I guess, and I need to honor that I appreciate being able to move back and forth between vegetarian and non-vegetarian while doing the program, and still maintaining stability. Guest guest
Question: Is it .4 to .6 of protein per day or per meal? Somehow I have this all mixed up in my head and I have decided I need that for each meal. But reading all this, I am beginning to wonder if I have it right! Guest guest
OK, here is the formula.... your weight in pounds multiply by .4 to .6 grams this gives you the number of grams of dense protein for the day Have one third of that in each meal. Does that make sense? Kathleen On Sep 12, 2007, at 8:32 AM, Michelle Auerbach wrote: > Question: Is it .4 to .6 of protein per day or per meal? Guest guest
It's per day. So a 150 lb person (for example) needs 60-90 grams of protein per day, 20-30 per meal. Guest guest
Wow. I can tell you that it is completely possible to do this as a vegetarian, as I have been getting almost DOUBLE the amount of protein I need!
