Guest guest
Hiya Nadine, welcome to vegetarian slimming. There are some wonderful recipes in our files. As i have said, its been quiet here of late but i'm sure things will get going again soon. I've been a bit too busy to keep checking in but i am still battling with the bulge! People assume that if you're a vegan you must be stick thin and pale. Well, that couldn't be further from the truth for me! I actually put on weight when i first went vegan! I was determined to prove to everyone (and myself) that you could be vegan and still make delicious cakes, biscuits, pizza and eat chocolate etc. Oops! So now i'm trying to lose weight for christmas but its hard as i have chronic fatigue syndrome so exercise is difficult and if i'm hungry i feel more exhausted! Its a bit of a nightmare! Plus the rain has just started, the road is like a river so no walk for me today! Anyway, thats enough of me moaning! Its good to have you here! ~*Laura*~ NadHimmighofen wrote: Hello, I'm new to the group and wanted to say hello and introduce myself...... Since many of the recipes in the WW cookbooks are not suitable for veggies I am sometimes at a loss when it comes to cooking and that is why I was really excited when I did a search on and found this group! 7) Is there anything specific you want to get out of the group?I hope to meet people who are in the same boat as I am and share ideas, recipes..... 8) Tell us a few of your favourite things.I love crafts, books, gardening, travels.... 9) Do you know of any internet sites or other groups which maybe relevant to members?10) Is there anything else you'd like to share with the group?I'm single, living in the country with the family, three cats, one tortoise.... Guest guest
Hello Laura, thank you for the welcome! Oh I know.... people always asked my why I had put on weight- " you eat nothing but vegetables- how can that happen? " Well, I love to bake, I love nuts, chocolate and I was really surprised when I read the nutritional info on many of the burgers I bought regularly. Once I got going with Weight Watchers things worked out fine, I still get my daily dose of sweets etc but it is all more balanced now. If only I would like exercise more.... Guest guest
Yes, i know the feeling! I think i have started losing a bit of weight again but very slowly. I have difficulty trying not to snack in the evenings. the dark chocolate is so tasty i have trouble not running to the cupboard to grab a few squares. Especially as i often have a sore throat and when i eat it feels better - especially if i eat chocolate! ;-) Anyway, i'm doing my best and i think i'll lose more when i start teacher training in September. Running around a school after kids should help me lose it! I just hope i have the energy! My favourite food at the moment is fake chicken, carrots, cabbage, sweetcorn and new potatoes with lots of gravy on top! Mmm. Although i did make an excellent risotto the other night. Thought about posting the recipe here but its not as healthy as i'd like. It was a treat as i had a friend round to dinner. Maybe i can find a way to adapt it to a more low fat recipe! Anyway, must go for now!, Take care, ~*Laura*~nadhimmighofen <NadHimmighofen wrote: Hello Laura, thank you for the welcome! Guest guest
Hello everyone. I'm new and excited and a little scared, just a little. One of the first questions I had when reading PnP was about sources of vegetarian protein. I did my first breakfast today. I had a green juice (kale, parsley, cucumber, spinach, ginger) that I usually get at this juice place near my apartment and I asked them to add soy protein powder. I also ate a raw pumpkin seed bar. I know that I met the amount of grams needed at breakfast. I need 20 grams. I never thought about protein too much before reading Kathleen's book. What else could I eat for breakfast that has protein and it is vegetarian? I do eat fish sometimes, but I don't think I want that for breakfast. And I would eat dairy, like cottage cheese or yogurt (is yogurt a good source of protein?), but I'd rather not eat dairy every day. Oh, how about the George's Shake? Sorry if i had too many questions at once. Nice to meet you all, Juju
Guest guest
Juju, I am not the most experienced member of this list, but I can definitely answer the breakfast question, (We all can, I bet). Here is my list of things I like: Smoothie with almond milk, nut butter, whey protein, bananna, and oats Tofu scramble and whole rye toast Leftovers from dinner, especially veggie meatballs with a biscuit Tempeh fakin bacon and eggs and toast Homemade hashbrowns with veggie sausages Granola (I make my own) with protein powder in the the almond milk Oh and for my kids I make these fake egg mcmuffins with a biscuit, veggie sausage and eggs. I think that is about it. Not so hard, especially when all you need is 20 g of protein. Good luck. Michelle On 1/27/08 1:54 PM, " juju stulbach " <juju.stulbach wrote: > > > > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
hi Juju and Welcome! congratulations on posting! specially if it felt a little scary! Looking forward to hearing more from you now! Michelle gave you some yummy ideas. We dont choose yogurt as a dense protein - its too 'runny'- think of those you can hold easily in your hand. Cottage cheese is a star though , the one I use has 28g a cup. I use that a lot at breakfast - either spooned out of the tub, or sometimes I whiz it with the handblender with a flavouring ( its not unlike yogurt in texture then) Often I use it to top up my protein ina shake. remember - doesnt have to be conventional breakfast foods - whatever you like Lots of people love george s shake - its soy based, or you may prefer to choose Restore, which is whey protein. looks like you'll be fine with the protein.... what are your favourite browns? and are you happy with the 4 parts of breakfast? let us know... mosaic , " juju stulbach " <juju.stulbach wrote: > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
Welcome Juju! I just posted my typical breakfast on another thread and thought maybe it would help you too NutriBiotic vegan brown rice protein powder (12g/tbsp) 8 oz. unsweetened almond milk 2 tbsp oats 1/2 cup frozen organic blueberries I actually look forward to this breakfast shake. Of course you'd adjust it to your taste and needs. I found the protein powder much cheaper online, email me if you want the details. Best wishes. Have you noticed any changes yet? , " juju stulbach " <juju.stulbach wrote: > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
Thank you ladies for your helpful sugestions. I don't know if I've noticed any changes yet. I do wake up looking forward to breakfast. Well, I guess that's new. And I feel hungry at lunch time, for a real meal though, instead of snacks. This is so new and fun. It kind of feels like when I started going to Alanon a couple of months ago, I'm just going with the flow, learning... without putting too much preasure on myself. I think I'll order the George's Shake. I know that I'm lacking some vitamins in my system, like b complex and minerals and that the Shake has them. Or maybe I'll just get a supplement. Or maybe both... Any thoughts? Much love Juju On Jan 30, 2008 11:49 AM, anna_ristow <Sunshine7 wrote: > Welcome Juju! Guest guest
Hi Juju Sometimes it is hard for me to remember my vitamins. Actually, I just ordered the All-One vitamins that the RR store sells because I keep forgettin to take the regular pills lately. I think it just depends on your style. I am learning that mine is - make it as easy as possible! Tina juju.stulbach Wed, 30 Jan 2008 16:47:30 -0500 Re: Re: Hello, I'm new! Thank you ladies for your helpful sugestions.
