Guest guest
This a first time joining an online group. Believe me it has been a long time coming. I read SARP three years ago did it for a while but drifted. I've had trouble with sugar probably all my life( I use to steal money from my mom's purse as a 7 year old so I could buy candy at the corner store.-I've had the classic problems with sharp mood swings related to sugar binging and withdrawals. I am a nurse although not currently practicing, I also was diagnosed a couple years ago with severe osteoporosis I am 50 but the outside body looks good but the bones are thin and I;ll probably be 5 inches shorter in 20 years. I'm doing all the healthy things - more alkaline diet, meaning I'm eating lots more greens, lentils etc. and exercising and mod weight lifting. I am in the process of becoming more of a vegetarian. Juicing carrots and celery once a day. Eating more raw vegetable salads. Sugar is a non nutrient and definitely has contributed to the Ca loss in the bones -not enough good food to provide for bone building. Seems I have alot of head knowledge and all the reasons to stay off sugar but as all you fellow addicts know -the world out there loves sugar and it is hard to be a mom of 5 and not make brownies or cookies sometimes. I am better than I was but the truth is I can stay off sugar for a while but then something upsets me and I go downhill and seek my comfort food. And of course I've done the complaining bit of why can't I eat sugar like everyone else? Soo that's why I need you folks out there in cyberspace I need to know that I am not alone in this. I have been doing the protein at all three meals for this last week and yes I can tell I am better, calmer, able to think clearly but especially not plagued by overwhelming negative thoughts and low self-esteem. I have also been trying to think about what I am thinking about and catch myself when my thoughts become negative. I did two nights last week with the potato but didn't sleep those two nights. So I stopped that - strangely I did feel pretty good during the day and had enough energy. I guess my body isn't use to having much serotonin. I went with brown rice and cinnamon tonight and here I am at midnight writing this. I did get plenty of Tryptophan in my lentils at breakfast this morning. How long will it take to get use to having more Serotonin? In other words when will I start having a good nights sleep? Thanks for any advice you can give.Jane
Guest guest
Hi Jane, Welcome! Connecting here in these online groups has been huge for me too. I'm glad you took the leap of faith to reach out and write to us. What worked best for me was to begin at step 1 with a beginner's mind and work really hard at getting all 4 parts of breakfast super-solid. Then I built my foundation from there. Trying to integrate all of the program at once was overwhelming and pretty much impossible. Taking small baby steps is what really kick-started my healing. Kind of counterintuitive, but those small changes were things that I could really integrate and build on. So, how is your breakfast? Guest guest
really glad you found us ! I thought lots about seratonin too ( it really caught my interest) but in fact I didnt have to wait too long to start feeling a bit better - in fact that happened before the seratonin step! step 3 being a bit bit of my personal jigsaw - lots of people , step 1 alone makes a big difference. I did it all a bit quick and had to re visit from the beginning again, so I can confidently echo Tina's good advice , to have a really secure solid breakfast. once I got all 4 parts right, it made a firmer foundation for the rest. Are you ok with breakfast? today I had a shake, cottage cheese in it as well, with some wild rice on the side as my brown. what sorts of things do you like? , " janight " <janight wrote: > > This a first time joining an online group.
