Guest guest
Hey Sophie and Nancy, I have found a couple messages on the vegetarian list and wonder if anyone regularly gets involved or do you go to the forum more. I am on step 3 and I am very tired of beef, pork and chicken. I used to try more vegetarian meals many years ago so I know that certain foods put together will give us complete proteins. When I look at the beans, rice, eggplant and zucchini in the sloppy joe, does that give us enough protein. Also, is there a place on the website that I can find some vegetarian recipes? Thanks, ConnieT
Guest guest
hello Connie do you have the new edition of Potatoes not Prozac? Kathleen wrote about complete proteins/vegetarians on page 127. Basically, as long as you get enough of everything throughout the day, its OK. I was always taught the complete protein thing at school, but new research shows its OK to get that balance through the whole day - not at every meal necessarily. have a look at Files over there on the left for vegetarian recipes. its also worth doing a search on the dense proteins - tofu, seitan, etc as some great recipes are posted here. how are you liking step 3? mosaic , " conniethyne " <connie wrote: > > Hey Sophie and Nancy, I have found a couple messages on the vegetarian > list and wonder if anyone regularly gets involved or do you go to the > forum more. > I am on step 3 and I am very tired of beef, pork and chicken. Guest guest
Hi ConnieT--I must admit I am just a looker right now. I do have the book and would like to read it but have not as of yet. I am interested in giving up sugar and eating healthy so I get good ideas and motivations from reading the posts. Have a good day, Nancy conniethyne <connie wrote: Hey Sophie and Nancy, I have found a couple messages on the vegetarian list and wonder if anyone regularly gets involved or do you go to the forum more. Guest guest
Thanks Mosaic, yes I have PNP but I am not up to 127 yet. . . still trying to understand brain chemicals, but I will fast forward to that page 127. I will look at the files on the left side to find some recipes. Step 3 is going well. I am getting the protein I need with mostly chicken, and brown bread with peanut butter is my favorite carb, but I have tried beans/rice and cheese which I enjoy, but good grief it takes a toll on my intestines (if you know what I mean). . . after the body gets used to beans does everything settle down? Timing is good because I dont like feeling hungry. > Basically, as long as you get enough of everything throughout the day, > its OK. Guest guest
I think it's meant to be easier on your body if you introduce beans gradually. I'm going to have to do this because although I seem to tolerate them pretty well, my partner doesn't, so we're going to start adding them in occasionally. Also, if you're using dried beans, discarding the soaking water and cooking them in fresh is also meant to help. HTH! Guest guest
Hi Connie, I just wanted to say welcome to the group! Certain foods were hard on me at first too, but then I got used to them. For example, when I started eating more vegetables, there was an adjustment period. There are some foods that I don't tolerate as well as others (dairy can upset my stomach), but there are others that just take some time. A slow introduction with beans is probably best. The journal is a great tool for this stuff when you get there. Guest guest
I adore beans and usually cook up a pot each week. I've noticed that some are harder on my digestion than others...haven't figured out exactly why. I've been eating beans for a long time, so for me it's not a matter of getting used to them & having the " music " stop, unfortunately LOLOL. I think I'll pay more attention in my journal to which beans/what recipe/what effect happens. This'll be a fun adventure! I think this is one of the few places where people can appreciate this <smile>. Lentils seem to be easier on me than beans. Don't know if that's true for others. Guest guest
I'm fairly new at this myself, but I'm pretty sure that's enough protein. It's my understanding that rice and beans are a complete protein. As far as recipes, I found some good ones on the website by clicking on the link for the resource center, then on cooking/recipes, then on the link for radiantrecipesonline (it's at the bottom of the page). There's a great macaroni and cheese recipe that is really easy. Good luck, Sophie , " conniethyne " <connie wrote: > > Hey Sophie and Nancy, I have found a couple messages on the vegetarian > list and wonder if anyone regularly gets involved or do you go to the > forum more. > I am on step 3 and I am very tired of beef, pork and chicken. Guest guest
hello Connie just want to reinforce thats the new edition PnP ... the old edition will be different I guess - dont want you peering at the old edition and thinking I've lost my marbles. steady protein is really important for me, so Im pretty meticulous about that! Beans, I cant comment much, I have cast iron insides and just thrive on beans. But I would think that a slow steady introduction is best. hey dont just listen its great to hear your voice. keep in touch. mosaic , " conniethyne " <connie wrote: > > Thanks Mosaic, yes I have PNP but I am not up to 127 yet. . . still > trying to understand brain chemicals, but I will fast forward to that > page 127. > > I will look at the files on the left side to find some recipes. > > Step 3 is going well. Guest guest
Well, this is fun, kinda like a conference call with Connie, Nancy and Mosaic LOL I ordered the new revised PNP but it was a while ago that I read the first PNP so I am not sure what is new in the revised, but I am still reading it. The book that got me started was Sugar Addicts REcovery Program. I laughed so hard in the first of the book when I saw my self with not one butterfinger, but 5 at a time in the same few hours. Oh I hope I never do that again, but I guess I have slipped a couple times in the year I have been working on recovery. It is maddening to realize that if I dont concentrate on the program, I am not recovering at all and it seems to be even more of a struggle to get level again. But I am daily working on recovery. I listen to the 2007 Ranch cd on the way to work every day. But it is kinda like leaving church and getting sucked back into the world. I have gotten thru steps 5 but stumbled on 6 so they suggested I go back and get more steady so I am good on 1, pretty good on 2 and pretty sure I have gotten pretty stable on 3. Well, thats enough for now. ConnieT , " mosaic " <mosaic58 wrote: > > , " mosaic " <mosaic58@> > wrote: > > > > Connie I bet you will love the book when you get into it.
