Hi,

I am new to this list and am only on step 2 but thought I would get

some support prior to starting step 3, as a vegetarian. I have been

using Nutribiotic Rice Protein powder in my smoothies and it says to

use one " heaping Tbsp " for 12 grams protein. I worry that I am not

getting all my protein because my Tbsp isn't " heaping " enough. Does

anyone else used this powder and know if two heaping Tbsp. correspond

to some other convenient measure, like 1/4 cup or 3 Tbsp?

Thanks,

Emily

Yes, I use that. I use two scoops though and just

make a bigger shake. In general, for any protein

powder, I find I need to add more than one scoop.

Hope that helps,

This is interesting. I've suspected that the rice protein

powder is overestimating the amount of protein in

a scoop. It doesn't hold the way other kinds do. I'm

going to try upping it and see how that works.

Two tablespoons equal 1/8 cup, if that helps.

Hi Emily,

Welcome to the list. I don't know anything about that protein powder. I use

George's Restore from the RR store. It is excellent!! And the label and included

scoop make it very easy to use.

Emily,

I use rice protein powder as well, and I use 2 heaping, heaping scoops. Since

you're now on step 2, you can experiment! What does your journal say? Are you

getting hungry or antsy before lunch? It took me a few weeks to nail down a

shake held me and tasted good and was easy to make. It was actually pretty fun.

Jess,

Thanks for the point about experimenting. My analytical brain wanted

to know exactly how much two heaping Tbsp was equal too, but instead I

will experiment with the amount of " heaping " and see what my journal

indicates. I do get antsy before lunch right now so I will use that

as my indicator. I never get hungry any time.

Amy,

When you say scoops do you mean Tbsp? My container didn't come with

a scoop. I have been using two Tbsp but as the powder is usually my

only protein source at breakfast I was trying to make sure I was

getting the 12g per Tbsp. I suppose I could experiment and add some

peanut butter or other protein to my breakfast. Thanks.

[2 Em] Analytical?

I am weighing my R.P.Powder by the gram!

For that matter... I am weighing almost everything I eat.

Thankfully only for a week or 2 so my Dr. gets an accurate report from

me on my calorie intake (lost 75lbs in 1.5 years... no diet... no

idea... 6ft/235lbs down to 160lbs wet).

I find that Carob powder (Roasted or Raw) makes an R.P.Powder shake

really pop, as long as you add vanilla (looking for non-alc. ... buying

van. beans).

I was using white Stevia extract, but I am starting to notice that

I am not fooling my body... it wants 'carb-sweet-, not 'tongue-sweet'.

I get cravings soon after having Stevia.

No. Sorry, I forgot to mention I used the George's

shake scoop. I switched to the other protein powder

when I needed a change. Not sure if I am getting too

much, but I know I get hungry with only one scoop. I

am not sure how much is one scoop. More than a

tablespoon, but I'm not sure how much.

When I drank George's shake, I used to use one scoop

of that with one scoop of George Jr.

Amy,

Using the scoop from restore is a great idea! One serving of

Nutribiotic rice powder is 15g and so is one serving of Restore. I

just ordered some Restore to try out so once I get it I will use its

scoop for my rice protein powder too.

Hi RR - welcome!

Did you become a vegetarian in the last year and a half?

So glad you are here. I love the vanilla flavoring in the store, it's sugar and

alcohol free.

Hey Tina,

Actually, I have been a vegetarian on & off for

years, longest stretch was 12yrs I think (ended when

homeless & offered meatballs {Pork vs. Starvation =

Pork}). Have been on this vegie ride for maybe 4

years.

Several things changed over the year & a half:

-Minor oral surg./braces/infection removing

root-canals/full-mouth tooth crowning &

bridging/culminating with a truly ingenious oral

prosthesis... Upshot?: I can chew for the first time,

maybe ever.

-Met girlfriend, who feeds me amazingly good/healthy

veg. food (though protein is still the tricky bit).

-Removed processed sugar from my diet after finding

out that (even on several brain meds) it takes just

traces of sugar to trigger rage/violent

depression/worse. Makes me wonder why I'm on the meds,

if you know what I mean...

-Beginning of 1 1/2 years had 4 bouts of probable

pneumonia in 1 winter.

-Been working harder physically than I have in years,

outdoors & strenuous.

-And then there's the brain meds, including some

Dexedrine. I am told by my prescriber that Dex. only

suppresses appetite in the first 3 months max., which

is why it isn't a good weight-loss aid.

So it's complex. Hard to figure. Loosing insurance

at end of May, so it's time to wrestle it to the

ground before I don't have medical help.

Yum! Flavorings! I didn't see these before.

Thanks Tina!
