Guest guest
Hi, Jenny! I don't have a rice cooker myself, or any recipes that I know of, but we got a rice cooker for my BIL and his wife for Christmas one year, and I also found a little rice cooker cookbook from Jessica's Biscuit (http://www.jessicas.com) for about $5 to $7. It wasn't all vegetarian, but you might be able to use some recipes in it. I think it's called " The Rice Cooker Cookbook " (of all things!). Hope this is helpful. Guest guest
put it in the bowl ... add water to the bowl to roughly half the height of the tray... put vegetables on steaming tray ... switch on... test after 5-7 mins... andy.mich [andy.mich] It does have a steaming section but I've no instructions, so not sure whatto do with it.Love Shell. Guest guest
roughly between 5 and 15 minutes... depends on what you are steaming ... and how much you like it cooked... plus a little guesswork... use the water leftover as stock... andy.mich [andy.mich] Thanks Oliver, I'll give that a try, it was the timing I wasn't sure about.Love Shell. Guest guest
ours looks a lot like that...we got it at Target for $15. It also has a steamer basket. It says it cooks 6 cups, but the directions call for 1 C rice. My oldest will eat that by herself, so I can't use it for dinner. Guest guest
Thank you. I went to look it up, but they don't offer it anymore and Amazon said they don't know when or if the product will be available. :{ - Donnalilacflower Sunday, August 05, 2007 10:50 PM rice cooker Check this out. http://www.eldus.com/an/B000AV61NY.html I have had this for years. Got it at the drug store for $7.99 after the $2.00 rebate. It works like a charm, I take it to work, etc. All you do is add one cup of rice and 2 cups of broth or water and press start. As soon as the rice is done I toss in a handful of frozen peas or spinach and some herbs, stir and put the lid back on for a few minutes and it's the best vegetables and rice. If you have leftover soup you can heat it in the rice cooker while you make your side dish to go with it. I use this rice cooker all the time. It's in my top 5 favorite kitchen appliances. Guest guest
Myself I hardly?cook/reheat anything in the microwave anymore.? I try to steer clear of it.? I no longer use any kind of plastic to make or reheat any foods.? The rice cooker for me is wonderful....set it and forget it.??LOL? Does anyone have a rice cooker with a stainless insert?? Mine is aluminum, something else I am trying to eliminate. Roxy? Philly, PA ______________________ Email and AIM finally together. Guest guest
Roxy, I think that is a great idea. I just use a stainless pan and it works fine. I don't even measure the water or the rice but just eyeball it. Your body may not notice not having aluminum but it is an insidious metal that we don't really need. Guest guest
I've been known as the Gadget Queen but I've never had a rice cooker. I'm curious why people buy them. I've noticed one on the Chinese buffet & that's the first time I've ever tasted rice cooked in one. I was looking at them on Kaboodle.com last night to see what was on everyone's wish list. Are they versatile or do you mainly cook rice in them? I think this group has already " made me " buy a panini maker!!! I'm wondering if I need a rice cooker now! I dearly love rice! Guest guest
Oh dear, I've never named anything in my life, other than my kids. I think this poor little rice cooker will go through life called 'rice cooker'. I did sort out the counter space and it is sitting in it's own little space. I'm glad there are some great recipes in the files because the little wee book that came with it doesn't tell me much. Thank heavens for this group. LOL Mine is wrapped in recycled grocery bags and sitting on a shelf in my cellar way. I use it about once a month and make batch after batch of what I need and freeze it in 1 cup increments. Quinoa, barley, brown rice, millet. I do have to control myself cause its a " set it and forget it " process so using it is quite easy and I find myself wanting to make more even with 6,000 cups of quinoa in the freezer! LOL Mine can also be used as a steamer however I have never taken the time to try it. I guess I should, again, a " set it and forget it " option makes it easy. I hope you and " Lil RC " have a great time together. LOL Take care. Guest guest
I used my rice cooker tonight & cooked a rice pilaf blend & steamed broccoli in the top. I was surfing through rice cooker recipes on the recipezar site last night & found a potato salad recipe where the eggs were hard cooked in the steamer-neat idea!
