Guest guest
i just learned i will be going to tibet the first 3 weeks of june - a trip long in the making - i am traveling with 3 other women, at least 2 have been before - we are all vegetarians - the culture is very carniverous - it was suggested i bring extra protein no problem with whey protein powder, nuts, garbanzo " nuts " , but would like to take some healthy bars - any sugeestions for whey based protein bars? - i don't eat any soy due to low thyroid it will take us a week from the time we leave the u.s. to get to eastern tibet - we will be living in a nomadic community (running water? electricity?refrigeration, i doubt it) - we will be staying in a monastery guest house and one of the women in the group ius cooking for us any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated leigh
Guest guest
Congratulations on what sounds like a fabulous trip. I am living and & #13; & #10;working in Kazakhstan and have friends who have traveled to Tibet. & #13; & #10;Like Kz, the diet is heavy on the meat, but you will find that there & #13; & #10;are lots of vegetables and they are amazingly fresh. Buddhists are & #13; & #10;often vegetarians and are very sympathetic to that eating choice. & #13; & #10;They don't use preservatives or chemicals to grow anything in this & #13; & #10;part of the world, so you will find the fruits and vegetables & #13; & #10;wonderfully full of flavour. You should be able to buy very good & #13; & #10;dried fruits and nuts in the market which will help with your iron & #13; & #10;needs. There will probably also be tofu. Do you eat eggs? Because & #13; & #10;they will be free range and excellent. I've done a lot of traveling & #13; & #10;in the last year, and rather than worry about bringing protein, I'd & #13; & #10;recommend that you enjoy the local foods that are available. You are & #13; & #10;only going for 3 weeks, so live on local food and enjoy it. I'm & #13; & #10;heading back to Canada this summer and I'm going to miss the & #13; & #10; " non-chemical " truly organic food that I get here. Enjoy, Anne --- & #13; & #10; & #13; & #10;In , " leighfiles " <leighfiles & #13; & #10;wrote: & #13; & #10;> & #13; & #10;> i just learned i will be going to tibet the first 3 weeks of june - a & #13; & #10;> trip long in the making - i am traveling with 3 other women, at least 2 & #13; & #10;> have been before - we are all vegetarians - the culture is very & #13; & #10;> carniverous - it was suggested i bring extra protein & #13; & #10;> & #13; & #10;> no problem with whey protein powder, nuts, garbanzo " nuts " , but would & #13; & #10;> like to take some healthy bars - any sugeestions for whey based protein & #13; & #10;> bars? - i don't eat any soy due to low thyroid & #13; & #10;> & #13; & #10;> it will take us a week from the time we leave the u.s. to get to & #13; & #10;> eastern tibet - we will be living in a nomadic community (running water? & #13; & #10;> electricity?refrigeration, i doubt it) - we will be staying in a & #13; & #10;> monastery guest house and one of the women in the group ius cooking for & #13; & #10;> us & #13; & #10;> & #13; & #10;> any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated & #13; & #10;> & #13; & #10;> leigh & #13; & #10;> & #13; & #10;
