Get tested for depression?

I'm not sure if I'm " depressed " or not. I'm thinking it'd be a good

idea to get tested clinically. I believe that would involve blood

tests of my body/brain chemistry. There's a part of me that would be

okay with taking antidepressants. There's a bigger part of me that

resists taking antidepressants and wants to do it more " naturally " ,

and the Potatoes Not Prozac plan is what I'd go with because it seems

to fit me. So, it seems to me that either way (antidepressants and/or

natural) it would be a good idea to have blood test results. This

seems good because I would have a scientific benchmark that could

serve as a " before " , and I could get retested later to have an " after " .

I think I want to feel like I know whether or not my body/brain

chemistry is " bad " by getting a before test, and then if what I'm

doing is making changes in the " good " direction by getting an after

test.

What do you think about this?

Thanks,

Kurt

Kurt,

blood tests for depression are pretty inaccurate.

Why not just do the food?

hi Kurt

thats interesting, that you said, you thing PnP seems to fit you -

I'd listen to that little voice of yours, and give breakfast a go!

I'll tell you what I thought reading your last paragraph but dont

laugh at me! I thought of certain members of my family - scientific

minds all - who like a good old measure of everything, when really, I

think you are quite tuned in anyway, and know, or feel, your

biochemistry is a bit unbalanced.

and PnP has answers for you. You'll be able to feel the balance

return. Also I was reading on the forum briefly about how peoples

blood cholesterol improves with the steps, befores and afters, was

that what you were thinking of too?

what do you like for breakfast Kurt?

Good question. I'll give some answers in a reply to Mosaic's reply.

Thanks,

Kurt

First off, I meant to post this on the radiantdepression group. I am

struggling with the group/email format. I prefer the forum format

for several reasons. I'm going to reply within the text of Mosaic's

reply. This also addresses Kathy's reply to some extent.

I have started the PNP plan. I read the 1998 edition of " Potatoes

Not Prozac " at the beginning of May. From reading a bit in the

forum, I gather I am trying to implement the steps too quickly. I'll

probably go back to the forum for simplicity sake, introduce or re-

introduce myself, and regroup on the plan.

Yes, I definitely have a scientific part of me (my last job was as a

Mechanical Engineer). I also have an unscientific part of me. Yes, I

have the idea that my biochemistry is unbalanced, and yes I have the

urge to measure it.

It's more about the mental health, but I have had high cholesterol

and high blood pressure.

It's mostly been PB & J toast with a vegmeat. I mostly shop at Trader

Joe's (TJ's) for veg foods, so the vegmeat is usually TJ's Soy

Nuggets or MorningStar Sausage Patties. I have been eating eggs

sometimes, too. I try to have some fruit with breakfast also, but

that depends on planning and preparation, which I struggle with.

Thanks,

Kurt
