Guest guest
Hi to everyone! My name is Rebecca and I've come over from the Diabetes list to join in for a while. I've been reading through some of the posts and you all sound so friendly that it may be difficult to go back! I'm not vegetarian really although i was for nearly a year when i was pregnant with my second son. I've no idea really how to work out veggie meals to suit this food plan. I can do protein for eggs, cheese etc but wonder how you work everything else out. Is there a basic chart somewhere I could use? Hope you don't mind me dropping by. i'm on step 1/2 at the moment and I'm finding it difficult to eat meat and fish at every meal.when I try to eat less meat I tend to eat more carbs so that affects my diabetic numbers. any advice would be very welcome. Rebecca.
Guest guest
Hi Rebecca, Welcome to the list! Tofu, tempeh and seitan are wonderful options for non-meat meals. You can easily get them at big supermarkets or " green " markets. Nuts and beans are also high on protein. It is hard to get the same amount of protein from veggie-based diets than from an omnivorous one, but it is certainly possible. I have been vegan for almost a year and I'm working on steps 1 and 2 now. I included some soy-free protein powder to my breakfast and that has worked wonders. Last night I had wholewheat pasta with tofu, tempeh and broccoli rabe. It was really good! Hope you find this helpful. You should browse on the " file " section of the web post; there are several lists and charts that can be useful in terms of protein counts. My very best, Julia -
Guest guest
Thank-you so much Julia for this information. I need to do a bit of research into different foods i think. I used to be in catering so it might not be too difficult.
