Guest guest
4 months ago I became a vegetarian. Before starting this PnP program I just ate a lot of fruit, vegetables, beans and whole grain breads but now see that I wasn't eating enough protein hence why I kept eating lots of sugar and junk food. So now I'm going to have to broaden my horizons. I started reading some of these posts and already I'm lost. LOL!! I love the soy products on the market because they are easy and convenient but I know I can't live on those. I also try to avoid other animal products including eggs and cows milk. I eat a little cheese and I do bake with eggs and milk but thats it. My family still eats amimal products. Any ideas on where to start? Good cookbook recommendations? I've checked out a few vegetarian cookbooks at the library but wow did I get overwhelmed. Hard when you grow up in the south where everything is breaded, fried or bar-b-qued or covered in sugar. LOL!! TIA Karen
Guest guest
Hi, Karen! Any of the Moosewood cookbooks by Molly Katzen are great starting points for delicious vegtarian recipes. And the recipes tend to appeal to non-vegetarians as well, so you need only make one meal for you and your family. There are many veg cookbooks out there, but the Moosewood books are my personal favorites. The Moosewood restaurant is in Ithaca, New York, a beautiful college town (Cornell University) known for its waterfalls and intelligent, open-minded residents. Just a little plug for one of my favorite nearby places! Warm regards, Nadine , " Karen " <karenann1684 wrote: > > 4 months ago I became a vegetarian. Guest guest
Hi Karen  A great cookbook I've got, which was recommended on here a while back is 'How To Cook Everything Vegetarian' by Mark Bittman. It's really inspiring, and really does seem to cover nearly everything. As well as hundreds of recipes (it's a big book!) he also gives loads of great hints about modifying recipes and experimenting.  As to where to start, I'm sure the more experienced here can advise you better, but all I'd say is whatever you decide, do it slowly!  HTH Jenny Karen <karenann1684 Friday, 26 September, 2008 15:14:03 Need starter vegetarian recipes 4 months ago I became a vegetarian. Guest guest
Oh yes, that might've been me LOL! It is my favorite book and I'm constantly referencing it for tips. The other is as though everything is a miracle. --Albert Einstein Jenny Lee <jael_53 Friday, September 26, 2008 3:52:17 PM Re: Need starter vegetarian recipes Hi Karen A great cookbook I've got, which was recommended on here a while back is 'How To Cook Everything Vegetarian' by Mark Bittman.
