holiday meals (again)

So I have been thinking about our conversations here on vegetarian holiday

meals. I really like the idea of having a bunch of wonderful side dishes instead

of a focal dish like turkey.  It's certainly a new way of thinking about holiday

meals after all those years of meat eating :).  I am thinking about how

wonderful it would be to compile a list of our vegetarian holiday dish ideas and

maybe put them up on the RR website somewhere.  I bet we can get Kathleen to

mention it in the weekly newsletter, too :).  How do you all feel about this?

Would anyone like to submit a recipe (or give me permission to use one already

given)?

On another note I bought the latest issues of Vegetarian Times today since it is

featuring holiday meals.  One of the recipes is a mushroom, cheese and vegetable

strudel using whole-wheat phyllo!  I haven't seen whole wheat phyllo in my

stores, but I wonder if I asked for it if they could get it for me... I will try

that.  Right now I am reading the magezine waiting for my newest dish to cook:

Mushroom and cheese flan.  I had this dish at an amazing vegetarian restaurant

in Avebury, England.  I requested the recipe and the chef gave it to me!  It's

basically a whole wheat and oat crust, very crumbly and hearty, with a mushroom,

cheese and milk filling.  If it turns out ok I will share the recipe here :).

heather,

What would you eat with the flan to get enough protein?

Heather,

This sounds fantastic. I hadn't mentioned any new recipes. But I do

recommend that butternut squash soup from the RR cookbook for any

thanksgiving. :) I can transcribe it if you'd like me to.

JJ, it depends on how much protein you put into it :).  I will post the recipe

tomorrow.
