Guest guest
So I was ruminating over my tofu filled lunch today about how it's also called bean curd. I started to wonder, are there other bean curds out there that are made from other beans? And how hard is it to make? Anyone out there wonder this same thing or have answers? Guest guest
That's a really good question, Heather! My first thought is that What a great question, Heather! My first thought was that other beans would not behave in the same manner as soy, since soybeans have more fat and a complete protein vs. other beans. But I was intrigued, so I did a quick internet search. I came up with one recipe for non-soy bean curd, and it's made from garbanzo bean (also known as chick pea or gram) flour. It looks like a bit of work. If you're interested, it's at ellenskitchen.com or you can Google " non-soy bean curd " and you'll find various forums and such. I didn't see any other recipes, but I didn't do an exhaustive search. Guest guest
Oh my gosh, what a good question. Well, I have a soyabella to make soy milk and almond milk, and I saw that in the recipe booklet that was included, there are recipes for other types of bean milk. Maybe this is more common in China? There is a way to make tofu with the soyabella but I've never attempted it...now I wonder if you can make other kinds of curd with other kinds of beans. LOL " curd " is such a funny word! There is a cute T-shirt on Peta's website that says " powered by tofu " and it has a pic of a smiling cube of...bean curd! Guest guest
Janine, maybe I'll just have to experiment and see what happens . I have a soymilk maker and there are instructions on making tofu with it, maybe I'll try some other beans. I like the idea of trying chick peas--Cinzia mentioned finding something online about it. That's a cute t-shirt, love it LOL. Heather There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle.
