vegetarian RR while traveling

Hi everyone, well last week my hubby and I went away on a cruise to celebrate

our 5 year wedding anniversary. I had some experiencing doing the food while

vegetarian and traveling when I went to Euro Ranch last fall so I had an idea of

what to expect. Still, I brought a lot of food and found that as always,

preparation is key. To carry on my person I brought two kinds of crackers,

almonds and peanut butter (the store sells these great individual serving

packets!). Boy did those come in handy multiple times. Even my husband was

happy I brought them. For the room I had my shaker bottle and George's Restore.

I found that I could take food back to the room from the buffet, or have it

delivered, and I did so multiple times. So, for example, I brought back a

little carton of milk to make shakes with. Or a few hardboiled eggs from the

buffet to keep in the mini bar for snacks. The cruise line was excellent at

having vegetarian options for appetizers

and main courses for the dinners. I learned that the menus are posted earlier

in the day so I could see what they were and if I needed more protein, make it

happen. So I could order the cottage cheese plate through room service and

munch on it while I was getting ready, for example. One time I went to the

buffet for a mid-afternoon snack as we'd done a lot of walking that day and had

an egg salad sandwhich on whole wheat bread! Breakfast was easy, oatmeal and

omlets (which is my favorite anyways!). Some meals I did " stacking " where my

protein came from a few different dishes, but I was never lacking for options.

So yah, it's possible to do the food while vegetarian and traveling!

Sounds great Heather! I think you could write a great little manual on

radiant vegetarianism, especially when it comes to the good travel ideas!

Nice report, Heather! I really like how your were so resourceful and

creative. Yep, being prepared brings a lot of benefits (I feel much

calmer if I know I have back-up plans ready).

And it's great to know that there are veg options on a cruise.

Welcome back! Cinzia
