Guest guest
Hi everyone, I will be traveling once again next week. This time it will be 4 1/2 days in New Orleans for a conference. One thing I am really grateful for is the internet as a tool to do some research. Gosh I don't know what I'd do without it! I searched for a local map of the French Quarter. I'm staying just outside of it and figured that would be a good place to start looking. It's also the only neighborhood I know of in New Orleans (I've never been). So anyways, I printed out a map and then did some searching for vegetarian restaurants. When I found one I went to look at their website or menu, if available, or read reviews for information. I found an Indian restaurant, Pakistani restaurant, African restaurant, a creole place that brags a vegetarian gumbo, plus a few other American type places that all have good program friend options. I marked them all on my map. In the process I also stumbled on a small health food store not far from my hotel, so that will be nice if I need to restock something in my hotel room. I'm still planning on bringing my standard suitcase options: almond milk, protein powder and shaker bottle, crackers, tofu, peanut butter, brown rice bowls (microwavable). I'm a bit nervous about food in New Orleans, it's very meat centric, but I feel pretty good about the restaurants I found. Heather There are two ways to live your life. Guest guest
How cool, Heather! I've always wanted to visit New Orleans. If you eat fish (not sure if you do), it'll be pretty easy. If not, just more of an adventure LOL. That veg gumbo will likely have white rice in it, fyi. And if it's important to you, you might ask about any stock that's used in " vegetarian " dishes. Some cooks & restaurants consider a dish veggie even if chicken or beef stock is used (as long as there are no pieces of meat....it's a belief/attitude I've always found odd). You probably know all this already, LOL. It became ingrained in me, not eating meat for 25 years, but wasn't that way at first. Have a fabulous time! Guest guest
Cinzia, I didn't even think about the gumbo having rice, thank you for the tip!!! I will make sure to ask about that if I go there. I have gotten in the habit of asking about the meat stock. I've found some waitstaff just assume no, while others will ask the kitchen, so now I insist they ask the kitchen if they automatically say no (found out the hard way, when you don't eat meat products for a long time your body rejects them LOL). I don't eat fish, so adventure here I come! LOL Heather There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle.
