Guest guest
Hi. I have been following the program for twenty days now and I feel like I need someone to double check my math, regarding protein, because I am feeling very full after each meal. I am 180 pounds and I calculated my protein requirement to be between 72 and 108 grams. Is this correct? That being said, is the amount terrible different for everyone? I had a few days over 100 grams and felt like there was a change in my well-being. Do many people end up near the upper limit or is it very varied? I have been a Wieght Watchers member for nearly four years now and have had succcess using what used to be their Core program. For the past few years I have been eating three meals, lots of whole grains, very little sugar, and journaling everything that I put into my mouth. What was so amazing was that I noticed my mental state was better when I really stuck to that program and when I went off of the program I totally lost it around sugar! I never knew the science behind it...now it all makes sense. So, now I am in the process of upping my protein but do not want to add too much (Can there be too much?). I have the breakfasts under control (since I have been eating them all along). I have been journalling for nearly four years (I am now reflecting on my physical and emotional states though). I have always eaten breakfast (I have always been a bear to deal with if I do not eat asap). And through WW I have been eating regualr meals with lots of browns. I have been doing the potato as well, and I have noticed some mornings with much more clarity then before. But my main concern/confusion is still the amount of protein needed. Lunch seems to be the toughest meal since I am at work, but I am managinf to do it. I just needed some feedback regarding the amount of protein I should be consuming. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi and welcome! I'm sure you will get lots of support here regarding this issue. Plenty of folks here way better at math than I am! But my question, if you don't mind sharing, is what are you having for breakfast? On those few days you had breakfasts with over 100 grams of protein, how did you feel regarding your change in well being, and what were those breakfasts? Hope I can help! Great to have you here! Guest guest
I am also confused... Meagan, your protein would be about 90 grams per day and about 33 or so a meal. I can't tell what you are doing. can you clarify a bit? kathleen On Mar 29, 2009, at 2:43 PM, Janine Acevedo wrote: > Hi and welcome! > I'm sure you will get lots of support here regarding this issue. > Plenty of folks here way better at math than I am! Guest guest
Currently, I am going for approximately 30 grams of protein per meal and then having a protein snack between 1-3pm. For breakfast I have been having a shake with 30g of whey protein and two oat muffins. I typically eat breakfast by 6:45am. For my lunches have been rather large servings of vegetarian chili (25g protein, a cheese stick, and a whole grain wrap made into chips. Last week, I had a portion of a quiche with cheese and broccoli (25g), a cheese stick and the same shole grain chips. I have also done egg salad using three eggs. With each lunch I also have a portion of baby carrots. Snacks are usually a piece of fruit with almonds, or shredded wheat with almonds. Occassionally, I have an additional snack upon returning home from work. It has been assorted things (cheese stick, pb on whole wheat english muffin, cottage cheese and fruit. This is where the extra protein has been creeping in. For all of my life this time of day has been trying for me (my mother shares stories fo me coming home from school in the most horribe moods)! I am trying to keep the dinners at 30g even though I may have had extra protein during my snack (so that when I eventually step away from that mid-day bridge I will have my dinners set). Dinners have included two veggie burgers and veggies along with some browns, or quinoa with lentils to which I added sliced veggie dogs, omelets, whole wheat pasta with garlic and ricotta. Dinners are not usually a challenge for me. I appologize for the length of the post. This is all very new and I want to make sure I am doing the best I can, at the moment I am in. Guest guest
I meant slightly more than 100g for the day, not at breakfast alone. Guest guest
Hi Meagan, ok, so my personal bias is that more protein in the beginning is a good thing . I found when I upped mine to above the minimum I felt way better a lot sooner. Now I don't advocate going out and doubling it or anything, but I think a little extra helps the healing along. Does that answer your question? Heather There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. --Albert Einstein ________________________________ veggie4343 <veggie4343 Sunday, March 29, 2009 2:58:09 PM protein check, recheck, and a little background info Hi.
