Hi everyone,

I am brand new to the vegetarian list, and this is the first list I have ever

joined. I've been doing RR for over 3 years and have recently developed a dairy

allergy. Do you have any good ideas for meals that do not use cheese or any

dairy products?

Thank you so much. I am so looking forward to being here and know I will learn

a lot!

Hi Judy,

Welcome! I'm vegan so in addition to not eating meat I also do not

eat eggs or milk products. There are a lot of options. If you are

searching for new foods and they say they are vegan then they will not

have any dairy in them. Here are some of my favorite meals:

Breakfast:

1. Amy's non-dairy bean burrito, and a shake (made with rice protein

powder, chocolate almond milk, frozen strawberries, spirulina, part of

a banana, and cocoa powder)

2. Grapenuts with almonds and soy milk with Match Meats breakfast

sausage on the side (contains no meat or dairy). Many imitation meats

have dairy but Match Meats does not.

3. Raw food salad (apple with skin, pear with skin, baby spinach,

cinnamon, raisins, walnuts, and celery blended in a food processor).

Add rice protein powder, and silken tofu for protein.

Lunch:

1. Nachos - get a hearty brand of corn chips (something that feels

like food and not " chips " lol) or break up some tack shells. Then dip

them or eat them like a salad: vegan refried beans, black beans cooked

in taco spices, lettuce, tomato, a hearty whole foods type salsa, and

guacamole.

2. Vegan Burger with favorite toppings any form of bean soup on the side.

Snack:

1. Whole grain spelt cereal flakes, mixed with peanut butter, plain

cocoa powder, and soy or almond milk.

Dinner:

1. pretty much any mexican dish with black beans and vegan refried

beans instead of meat/cheese

2. pretty much any Italian dish with any form of white bean like navy

beans instead of meat/cheese

Fast Food:

1. Taco Bell: 7 layer buritto (ask them to hold the sour cream and cheese)

2. Pizza hut: Hand tossed crust is dairy free. You can ask them to

not put cheese on it and just add all the veggies. It's actually

pretty darn good. Not very high in protein though. : /

Fake Cheese:

My all time favorite vegan cheese (and I have tried a LOT of them) is

somewhat hard to find depending on where you live. It's called

PlayFood and they make vegan cheese spreads out of almond paste that

is so so so yummy! If you can find it give it a try. I also hear

that Tease is supposed to be really good, but I have not had it yet.

I hope that helps!

Judy,

I'm also dairy free. For breakfast I usually have a shake with almond milk and

hot cereal. For lunches and dinners I'm a huge fan of rice and beans.

Basically I have a vegetable, a grain and protein like eggs, beans, nuts, seeds.

I also eat a bit of meat, because I find I don't get steady without it, but I've

never missed dairy.
