Guest guest
For Easter this year I used Red Cabbage and made a layered slaw with it in a clear container. A layer of green cabbage, a layer of purple, a layer of shredded carrot, a layer of little green onions thinly slice, a layer green cabbabe, then red then the carrots again and on the top a comination layer of red and green with carrot coins made into a flower in the centre. I didn't put any dressing on it but served in on the side. Another good cooked cabbage slaw is shredded red cabbage cooked till just limp and tossed with thin red onion slices seperated into rings, a teaspoon of crushed caraway seeds and and sprinkling of freshly ground pepper. I use a sweet viniagrette on the side. You can use red cabbage the same way you use green. It just looks prettier. Heather - delairen Wednesday, May 09, 2001 7:33 PM Recipe Request... Heya! Does anyone have any good & easy recipes for Red Cabbage? ;-) They had some at the local Natural Foods Store, and I picked some up, but I'm really not sure what to do with it! :-) Blessings!Stephaniecontact owner: -owner Mail list: Delivered-mailing list List-Un: - no flaming arguing or denigration of others allowedcontact owner with complaints regarding posting/list or anything else. Guest guest
German red cabbage is one of my favorite things. Wash it and chop it into small, longish pieces, cook it with butter, water, and salt until soft, toward the end add at least 1 whole chopped apple and simmer for a long time until all the flavors blend and the cabbage and apple are completely soft. Season to taste with a sweetish vinegar such as apple cider vinegar--I'd play with the ingredients until you like the taste. It makes a lovely, rich red, delicious cabbage dish that I serve sometimes at fancy meals like Christmas and Thanksgiving. You're also supposed to add a bit of sugar, so I'm not sure what to do about that, for those of you who are completely off sugar. Guest guest
Dani, thank you so much for this, it sounds just so tasty, I may make this to take with me for a Thanksgiving Day celebration I'm going to on Saturday. I bet with the apple no one will miss the sugar at all! heather There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. --Albert Einstein ________________________________ Daneryl Weber <daneryl23 Thu, November 19, 2009 7:49:00 AM Red cabbage German red cabbage is one of my favorite things.
