Nothing like a cast iron seasoned griddle. I won't use teflon, I just don't

like it and not sure it is safe. Anything that peels off eventually can't be

good for you. Creepy stuff!

Yup...they faded eventually...I dream of a rice cooker, we eat lots of

rice, so it would probably be worth it, but I too, lack space...

I need a new griddle, too - I'm worried about the non stick coatings

though, any thoughts gang?

Yeah..I'm worrying about the teflon...I want a big one to do many

pancakes/burgers/etc at a time...I was thinking about one of those

ones that sits across two burners - has anyone used one on electric

(blech) burners...

Donna - I'm gonna go look for that recipe...

In addition, if you own pet birds, the odour from Teflon is toxic and

can kill them in a very short time. People used to think it was only if

overheated, but tests shown that the fumes are released even at lower temps.

Hello,

I'm on step 6 and looking to change over to a vegetarian diet.

I am not much good in the kitchen, and currently love being able to throw a

chicken breast or similar onto my George Foreman griddle, and was wondering if

anyone could help me find something easy I can replace the meat with?

Thanks

Steph

Hi Steph, welcome!! I used to be a meat eater, and made the switch to vegetarian

eating a year and a half ago. It took me quite a while to make the switch--two

years! I started slowly and let my body tell me how much was change was too

fast or just right. There are lots of quick meals you can make. In fact if you

look back in the archives for the last week or so you'll see a wealth of

suggestions for quick lunches. I can't say there is an equal substitute for a

chicken breast, but there are definitely easy quick things out there. One idea

for a quick meal is a cup of black bean or lentil soup, with 2 poached eggs on

top and crackers on the side. That's one of my favorites.

Thanks Heather,

I will look back, thank you.

Actually, it's amazing what posting a message does, it nudged me to go dig out

my instruction book, and there are instructions on how to griddle tofu, so I may

try that.

Your soup idea sounds yummy, is that home made?

Steph, I've found such great canned or dehydrated soup mixes for lentil and

black bean soup I haven't made it from scratch in awhile. It does speed things

up that way, too!

Let us know how the griddled tofu comes out! I've used tempeh on the foreman

grill before to use in sandwhiches.

Yay Heather,

I was hoping you were going to say canned soup (phew) I don't have loads of

energy or time, so that's a fantastic idea.

I've never cooked tofu or tempeh (love that idea of putting it in sandwiches)

and I will come back and report.

Wonderful, thanks so much :-D

I had a spicey veg soup today for lunch [loads of veg in stock with cumin & a

little chilli, blended] with a tempeh burger in pitta and a bowl of veggies on

the side.

Lovely
