Guest guest
That is great news, Kevin. It is good you are having fun with it and still holding strong. It was very easy for me to give up all flesh b/c I never liked it, even as a child. I imagine it is harder for folks who actually liked the taste of meat. I am proud of you. You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself, the animals, and our lovely planet. Don't be a stranger, and if you ever have a bad day, just know we are here to lift you up. Guest guest
Namaste, I am sooooo sorry about your back. My partner has really bad back issues that we thought needed surgery but so far accupuncture has been helping. It is very hard emotionally when dealing with chronic pain so my heart goes out to you!! dehydrated sprouted bread (also sometimes called mana bread) is a raw food, so congrats you have been completely raw. it is high in fiber and good for you even though it is processed! I have a book prescription for " nutrional healing " which is amazing book every household should have. It is written by an M.D. and a naturapath and it is a practical reference guide to using vitamins, minerals, herbs and food supplementsbfor every ailment A to Z. I'll do some research and post again. Good luck! mikaela
Guest guest
Dear Namaste, I am sorry to to here about your back. But regarding the Manna bread, it is not raw sorry It is baded at 240°F and is therefore not raw. It is from a new book called " The complete book of RAW FOOD " Editor Lori Baird. I have also heard it from my local organic store that it is not raw, sorry, I wish it was raw because before I went 100% raw I ate a lot of it. I am new to this group, and this is the first time I post a messages. I have been 100% raw for 4 months and It is great but I have some problem and I think it is because I am not to clean yet. Could somebody help me? I am loosing hair alot, what can I do to stop it? Hope to here from you soon Best regards Maria Oskars Iceland
Guest guest
good for you for chugging through it! - Eleanor130 rawfood: Saturday, May 13, 2006 12:28 PM [Raw Food] Checking In Hi All. I seem to be in a cleansing crisis. At 58 and with my former eating habits I know to take this thing slowly....but even adding some sprouts and a large glass of green juice every night has had me waking up in a full body sweat at night and feeling cognitively impaired, and my tongue is white. That says alot I think about how toxic I probably am. I got two of the Easygreen sprouters and have been pleased with them. Also got an Excalibur and plan to make some sprouted wheat bread. Once I have this, and can make some flax crackers or something, I am eliminating ALL cooked grains and eating only sprouted grains. I'm trying to set monthly goals so that I can be fully raw by the end of the year. I know there are a couple of schools of thought....one is to go raw altogether and just tough out the detox...the other is to do it gradually. With the symptoms I've been having, I don't know if I would survive cold turkey!!!! : ) Anyhow, having my alfalfa today felt like coming home! I enjoy this loop. Blessings, Elle
Guest guest
Thought I'd do a check in with the transition to veg. I'd like to move away from all animal protein but am finding my body needs to go more slowly than my feelings would like to, lol. After a few days of no dairy or eggs I had a standoff with myself in the trail mix aisle. So dairy and eggs are still in. Eggs will be the next to go since I'm having a hard time getting them down. Right now I'm mostly having beans and nuts combined and adding a bit of cheese to top it up. Part of my issue is not wanting to cook and not eating enough vegetables. So my plan for this week is to have my usual rice, beans and nuts plus the cheese or Boca/Morningstar product and focus on having vegetables consistently at lunch and dinner. And we'll see how it goes without eggs. Janice
Guest guest
Janice I'm liking my cheese melted on top of lentils and rice with veggies, or with pasta or quinoa or whatever is accompanying the likely bean or lentil curry I have most nights. Is this Boca type stuff a dairy free cheese? Guest guest
Hi Janice, sounds like you are listening to what your body needs, thanks for that reminder, because that's so important for me to remember. Can I ask if you or anyone else feels as though they are prone to low blood sugar feelings when they are especially stressed? If so, what's that all about? Also, the low blood sugar feelings can be very present during hormonal fluctuations premenstrually. Sometimes if feels as though the densest, stacked veggie proteins just don't hold me the same as chicken or fish does when I'm stressed or premenstrually. And if I'm both, it is even worse. That's always been my major need: blood sugar stabilization. I am so attached to the idea of seeing myself as a vegetarian (I love animals) and when I have a non-veg meal it is hard for me because I feel sad that I'm not a vegetarian. I tell myself to take it a meal at a time, but I do struggle with these issues. Guest guest
Janine I'm a total veggie in my heart as well, and I am horrified by mass food production methods, but we are working towards vegetarianism, not doing it the old way of all or nothing. I know BE is low pre menstrually, and there are probably other factors too. Stress demands dense proteins and solid browns. I definitely need to be aware of it and to adjust. One thing I'm doing is having about half my protein requirement for a meal in chicken or turkey, the rest from a veg source. That would be lunch. I'm veggie for dinner and breakfast. Guest guest
Hi Janine and Mel, I still need to eat meat once in a while near my cycle too. I eat it with thankfulness and appreciation and buy things that aren't factory farmed. My blood sugar has stabilized so dramatically over the years from this program. It used to be volatile. Are you eating enough food when you're stressed? Sometimes we need more then. Guest guest
Hi JoEllen, Thanks for your response. I appreciate your perspective. Your question regarding eating enough: it is so hard for me to eat enough when I'm stressed. I'm usually an easy going and cheerful person, but when there is a bit too much all at once that is stressful, my appetite just dwindles. Eating dense protein helps. Just making the food and sitting down with it helps to spark my appetite. I did notice that I needed to work on this during this past stressful week. : ) And yes, with appreciation and no factory farming. Thanks again, Janine On Feb 13, 2010, at 3:46 AM, joellencameron wrote: > Hi Janine and Mel, > > I still need to eat meat once in a while near my cycle too. Guest guest
Hi Janine, One thing I've really had to learn this past year is that high stress means more food. And like you said in another post, my appetite tends to disappear when I'm stressed so I have to stay really conscious of that and eat anyway. I've found lots of vegetables helps with my BS which goes wonky quickly when I don't eat enough which is of course when I'm stressed, lol. So my mantra is " Enough " since I think it's the " enough " that's messing with my BS not the stress per se. One meal at a time is the way to go I figure my body will let me know how far and how fast to go with this. I never in a million years imagined myself as vegan <smile> Janice , Janine Acevedo <janine wrote: > > Hi Janice, > sounds like you are listening to what your body needs, thanks for that > reminder, because that's so important for me to remember. > Can I ask if you or anyone else feels as though they are prone to low > blood sugar feelings when they are especially stressed? Guest guest
Hi Mel, Oh I'm looking into curry recipes especially since hearing from Dr. Oz that curry is great for preventing alzheimer's. Boca products are fake meat, their Boca Burgers are really tasty. I haven't explored dairy free cheese yet but I did get a book that has a recipe for cashew " cheese " that sounds interesting... Guest guest
Oh Janice I've been putting haldi [turmeric] in everything, even 2 x tsps in my veg tonight. I put cauliflower florettes [micro'd for a couple of minutes during as they were too hard comparatively], zucchini, baby sweetcorn into a dish with pumpkin oil and garlic, the turmeric, few chilli flakes, just roasted it. I had urid dahl made with very small little black lentils [they took much longer to cook than usual], and served it with roasted polenta [very plain], and some baby sprouts ith squash and green beans. That's funny about the fake meat. We have quorn *chickenesque* slices here. It's mad stuff. There used to be a fake meat chinese restaurant up the road that my next door neighbour absolutely loved. We went loads of times. I am guessing that the sugar content was through the roof! Very strange those fake duck pancakes. Compelling in a way. Boca products are fake meat, their Boca Burgers are really tasty. I haven't explored dairy free cheese yet but I did get a book that has a recipe for cashew " cheese " that sounds interesting... Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your roasted veggies, Mel I'm out and about today so will pick up some turmeric and veg for tonight. I haven't tried any quorn products though I have seen them in stores. The whole fungus thing kind of icks me out, lol. Although I eat mushrooms so go figure. Guest guest
Didn't Kathleen have some important information to share about quorn? Anyway, I love tumeric, too! I even used some in my chai! Recipe: 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup milk, 1 tsp tea of your choice such as black tea, decaf, or rooibos. Dash of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, star anise, and...tumeric! : ) Janine On Feb 14, 2010, at 7:48 AM, Janice Dickson wrote: > Thanks for sharing your roasted veggies, Mel I'm out and about > today so will pick up some turmeric and veg for tonight. > I haven't tried any quorn products though I have seen them in > stores. Guest guest
You know I think you may be right Janine. I am unlikely to be tempted by it in the forms I see it - the fake chicken & ham slices that are a wierd texture & unnatural colour. That sounds a top drink! Guest guest
Thanks, Mel, I forgot to add that I boil it all together for about 5 minutes, then let it cool a bit, then drink!
