Hello everyone,

I am a vegetarian, have been for 20 years. Was a vegan for 5, before I had

children. Am feeling like I want to give up cheese again, but it sounds like

all everyone talks about is protein! I understand it is important to stay

full, but what about more fiber? I am really at step one, so I am learning a

whole new way of eating. (I was uh, kinda a junk food vegetarian)

Would love some imput from you who have been through this.

Thanks so much,

Maria

Hi Maria

Welcome to the group.

I was a pudding vegetarian before - no protein to speak of, mainly chips and

fries with white bread and mayo actually!

You don't have to aim to be particularly full, not hungry obviously.

Step One is all about breakfast - getting the right amount of protein for your

body with a complex carb within an hour of getting up every day.

Once you work out how much protein you need, it's then a question of which

protein, or what combination of proteins you'd like to have.

What proteins do you enjoy besides cheese?

There's pea protein powder as well to consider if you haven't come across it.

Hi Maria,

So nice to meet you!

Yeah, it is a whole new world, huh, with everyone putting an emphasis,

it may seem like, on protein. : )

But the whole protein thing...it is way more than just about staying

" full. " It is about feeling your best and healing.

What have you been eating for breakfast these days? How is that going?

Glad to have you here!

Janine,

Thank you!

I have been eating mostly oatmeal with peanut butter and smoothies with

fruit, rice milk, and peanut butter. I am getting sick of eggs and cheese! I

have been eating them during the day and it is making me feel kinda yucky.

(for a lack of a better word) I did buy protein powder and oat milk

tonight, so we will see how that goes tomorrow. I have been doing a journal

for 5 days, and really paying attention to what is going in my mouth.

Surprisingly, 4 lbs have disappeared. Just from paying attention! I am going

to start reading PNP tonight, and YLD after that. I have reviewed the

website and read Little Sugar Addicts. This is definitely the place for me.

Thank you for being here, I need you all!

Hi Maria,

It is great to have you here!

Breakfast: It is an adjustment, but give it a little time.

You write that you are " getting sick of eggs and cheese. " Just staying

with breakfast, does eating eggs and cheese in the morning make you

feel, as you wrote " yucky " ? When you write " yucky " what does that

mean...like, too full, nauseated, or...?

It sounds as though you are having breakfasts with oatmeal and/or

smoothies with peanut butter? Yum! Sounds like a great start to

getting enough protein at breakfast!

I'll bet reading PNP will be a great read for you: interesting,

informative, eye opening--!

Janine,

Yucky meaning, I really don't want to be eating animal products anymore,

more like a guilt thing. My reason for going veg so long ago was for

ethical reasons. Now that I have been eating so much of dairy and eggs I feel

bad. I want to find a good alternative to eating those things.

Wow, PNP and YLD are amazing, I feel like it is me all through those pages,

like Kathleen wrote it about me. Truly amazing. I am excited to be free

of the binds that have constricted me for a lifetime.

Mel,

I am definitely not a breakfast person. I am one like it describes in the

book, who doesn't like to eat in the morning, I like the " high " of not

eating in the morning. I do enjoy shakes though, it feels more like drinking

than eating, though it gives my body what it needs.

like Kathleen wrote it about me. Truly amazing. I am excited to be free

of the binds that have constricted me for a lifetime.

Yucky spiritually! I get it. I struggle with that to, so much. But..I

have found that doing this with baby steps and really listening to my

body is so crucial.

Shake is the nectar of the gods, Maria, and so easy to prepare and to have.

I was just like you - I didn't eat lunch either!

Within a week or two of having breakfast I felt very differently about it, and

just very different full stop.

Are you feeling hungry for breakfast yet?

You can add the pea powder to soups or stews so it's good as a booster.

Are you having a shake-type breakfast, or experimenting with what would

You don't have to aim to be particularly full, not hungry obviously.

Step One is all about breakfast - getting the right amount of protein for

Once you work out how much protein you need, it's then a question of which

What proteins do you enjoy besides cheese?

There's pea protein powder as well to consider if you haven't come across

Hi Maria,

I'll second Mel's comment-nectar of the gods it is!

It's like having ice cream every morning (I use ice), and

it's always delicious when you get the right recipe for yourself.

I resisted breakfast for so many years before the magic

shake came along. I could always have one even when I

wasn't hungry for breakfast. Now I am, but I still have that

trusty shake.

I think I will try all kinds of shake recipes. It seems like that would

be the best breakfast for me. Thanks!

Mel, unfortunately not feeling hungry yet. I am still struggling with

eating something within an hour. I am one who waits until I am ravenous, and

then eats everything in sight. I need about 25 gms of protein, so I will

work on that with the shakes.

I was just like you - I didn't eat lunch either!

Within a week or two of having breakfast I felt very differently about it,

and just very different full stop.

Are you feeling hungry for breakfast yet?

You can add the pea powder to soups or stews so it's good as a booster.

You don't have to aim to be particularly full, not hungry obviously.

Step One is all about breakfast - getting the right amount of protein for

your body with a complex carb within an hour of getting up every day.

Once you work out how much protein you need, it's then a question of which

protein, or what combination of proteins you'd like to have.

What proteins do you enjoy besides cheese?

There's pea protein powder as well to consider if you haven't come across

it.

I'll second Mel's comment-nectar of the gods it is!

It's like having ice cream every morning (I use ice), and

I resisted breakfast for so many years before the magic

You can breakthe old pattern bit by bit if all 4 parts of breakfast are too big

an ask in one go.

Son you have enough protein.  Done & dusted right?

If so, could you start moving the shake earlier and earlier?

On the other hand, it was much easier for me to just do it, because very soon

indeed I was ready for breakfast right awayeach morning!

Mel, unfortunately not feeling hungry yet.  I am still struggling with

eating something within an hour.  I am one who waits until I am ravenous,  and

then eats everything in sight.  I need about 25 gms of protein, so I  will

work on that with the shakes.

I have lentils with quinoa every morning. If/when I don't have the energy to

make my own lentils, I use lentil soup.
